ASUS P5Q3 with TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX

Recommended Posts

When I put both sticks of TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX into ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe Motherboard the system locks up. It takes a few moments to lock up but it always does...no matter if I'm sitting in the BIOS or just booted up to desktop. If I just use a single stick it works and never locks up but I am then limited to 2 GB RAM instead of 4 GB (or 8 GB even once I get a pair working correctly). Using 1 at a time either stick works indefinitely. It only locks up once I place both sticks in...no matter which slot I stick them in. Both in an A channel, both in a B channel, 1 in A and 1 in B (both ways).

It may be BIOS settings for my RAM. Here is my system spec:

Motherboard: ASUS P5Q3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP CH1-11 LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

RAM: TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX CORSAIR XMS3 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) (Timing: 7-7-7-20)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

Since it works with one I doubt it would be video but will still list it.

Video: HIS Hightech H487X2F2GP Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB 512-bit (256-bit x 2) GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

This was basically a merge of 2 PCs - will be moving the Wolfdale to a different PC and getting a new CPU for this motherboard in 3 months or so but would still like to get the system working as it is with 8 GB RAM.

Right now I am doing no overclocking and to get just a single stick of the TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX to work I had to go to manual DRAM Timing with these values:

CAS: 7

DRAM RAS to CAS Delay: 7

DRAM RAS Activate to Pre: 20

DRAM Voltage: 1.90

All other settings in the Ai Tweaker page are set to Auto.

Any ideas would be extremely helpful.
