HP ze5700 doesn't recognize VS1GSDS333

The VS1GSDS333 just shipped and my hp ze5700 doesn't recognize it. The BIOS shows only existing memory not the new 1G. If I put just VS1GSDS333 alone in one bank, the system doesn't boot.

Is it originally incompatible with ze5700 or this specific module is defective?

Please help. Thanks.

Based on our memory finder it appears that you have purchased memory that is not compatible with your notebook. You need PC2100 aka DDR266 memory.

isn't a 333 ram supposed to run at 266 too?

I purchased a 333 ram because the original hp ram was a 333 (pc2700) and it was running at 266.

I guess this Corsair VS1GSDS333 ram only run at 333 not at 266?

This is a function of the BIOS AND the memory controller in your notebook and not the memory. The memory is capable of running at 266. Most likely, due to the age of your system, your chipset cannot address the ICs used due to density. This appears to be the case since your system will not boot with the solo Corsair module.
