New Forum Rules Discussion Thread

Hello --

This is only a comment from the perspective of someone new to these suppprt forums. Please, don't even spend 5 minutes on this! It's trivial.

Being new, I just read The Rules. I think it's a good idea to make new users read them, so they can't say they weren't aware of them.

However, one Rule is puzzling me.

What's a "Signature Access", and why would I need 10 posts to gain it? I don't know that term, nor what 'spamming a signature' is. I have used many forums, with this same forum software, before, but I don't recall these terms.

It's hard for me to understand a Rule when I have no idea what it means.

(Perhaps a couple sentences of explanation might help?)

I'm going to go figure out these terms are now, so I understand.

Again -- not more than 5 minutes on this, please! It's only new-user perspective.

Take care and have a great evening!

David

Signature Access = having access to create a signature. Spammers will sign up and create an account and make a signature with spam in it solely to advertise to anyone reading the forum and/or to improve their SEO.

Dear Corsair forum staff.

Why you always have to bowdlerize every time another company or product name comes up in the forum?

Isn't that little bit of dictatorship a ala North Korea?

I just wonder why you are so keen on that?

Sincerely, WOLF.

It's been that way a while and it's not going to change. I don't really see it as a big deal, more silliness than anything, because everyone knows what everyone else is talking about, with censoring or not. Probably just some decision by stuffy execs that don't really understand what's going on.

I have a question about this rule below.

ALL YOUR INFO ARE BELONG TO US

Any and all information (threads / posts / PMs / images) submitted to this site by members on this forum are considered to be property of said forum. As such, we reserve the right to edit any and all information for clarity or other violations of the rules. 99% of staff edits to public posts / profiles are normally to clarify information by replacing generic part descriptions with the actual part #, or to move system specs to profiles. Any and all edits are also logged. We also reserve the right to merge posts / threads at any time. We also reserve the right to observe PMs / emails sent through this forum to protect ourselves and our members.

Does that mean any build log images users post Corsair becomes the owner of and can use it any way they see fit or will you ask the user if you can use it for promoting a product.

What happens if members watermark all images to make sure due credit is given if someone wants to use it.

No. The rule's in place to make everyone aware that we can edit / move / merge posts at any time. I should know, as I made up the rule :)

Corsair could always say "check out the cool case mods in our forum", but to directly use anything I'm sure they'd have to get more permission permission from a user than a list of rules that you're redirected to after signing up. Also, most people take less than stellar pics of their cases which wouldn't be suitable for marketing uses anyway.

Here we go again.

NO DISCUSSION OF COMPETITORS:

This forum is here for the express purpose of supporting current and future users of Corsair Memory. Please do not discuss competing products or their suppliers by name on this forum, either in a positive light or a negative one. Such posts or threads will be edited or deleted at our discretion. Please contact the makers of that product for help. As stated above, their names are filtered out from public view.

If you have questions about non-Corsair products that do not compete with Corsair (e.g. operating system, routers, video cards, etc.), please post in the appropriate sub-forums. Start out with the Hardware Related and Software Related (Non Corsair Questions) areas. Note that Corsair employees do not monitor these areas, but they will move posts / threads to them from the Corsair areas if needed. If you see a post in the wrong area, please report it so that it may be moved to the correct location.

I must add my voice to this as well. This censorship does more damage than good. It's a lazy solution instead of a well moderated forum. Here are some of the issues im having with it.

• By censoring even the MENTIONING of competing companys/products. You are de-facto implying that those products are a threat or your products are inferior to theirs. Even if that was not the intention with the rule.

• Rules can simply state that posts not regarding Corsair products (be it support, discussion or comparison even vs. other brands.) will be deleted.

• You inconsistently filter some competing companies names while leave others free. ********, Intel, ********, ********, ********, ADATA, Transcend, Samsung.

No matter what the intent was, it hurts your image here on the forum.

PS. This is my personal opinion, I don't care for replies just stating another opinion. DS.

It's much more complex than it appears from the outside. Keep in mind that Intel makes CPUs so we can't very well filter them. Samsung and Adata both make ICs and SSDs, etc etc.

This in no way prevents Corsair customers from getting effective customer support. We have looked into some changes and will continue to do so.

Your interpretation of the rule is noted, however that's not how they're meant to be interpreted (we're always open to suggestions). IIRC you're the first person to say that actually. The itself rule exists for multiple reasons.

1. People come HERE for help with the competition's products. Not just a "I've got ******** memory with the same issue on that motherboard, maybe it's the board", but "I've got ******** memory, can you help me RMA it?".

2. It's a blanket rule for fanbois on either side. We don't appreciate people promoting other companies here nor do we appreciate people slamming them down either. It's not polite either way, and each company's products speak for themselves in the marketplace. The best place for this type of discussion to occur is on an unbiased forum. If enough people ask for one, I'll bring back HoH's sister site and people can go to town there to discuss whatever they want.

Rules can simply state that posts not regarding Corsair products (be it support, discussion or comparison even vs. other brands.) will be deleted.
That comes back to the interpretation you mentioned above. Sometimes it's in a person's best interest to mention the competition (e.g. Corsair part X didn't work, but ******** part Y did. Why's that?) and as such, is left open. Praise / slander / spam are already covered by other rules.

You inconsistently filter some competing companies names while leave others free. ********, Intel, ********, ********, ********, ADATA, Transcend, Samsung.
See Yellowbeard's response. While not all company names are filtered automatically, that doesn't stop them from being manually edited as deemed necessary.

In the forum rules,

ALL YOUR INFO ARE BELONG TO US => ALL YOUR INFO BELONGS TO US

NO PR0N. => NO PORN

And, I suggest you remove all periods, colons etc. in the headings, since headings the way you have them (fine!) should not have any punctuation at the end.

Regards,

Hans L

Those items are printed just like we want them to be, as quoted from the origiinal source.

Okay, I guess I am Wired differently than you :-)

Boy, it is dangerous to be old (30+) and doing your own computer stuff. I am so out of touch it's not even funny. Anyway, thanks. Since English isn't my mother tongue, at least now I have something to blame my mistakes on: "Zero Wing said it!".

1. I understand about the "no competitors products" rule. However, I find it odd that we cannot list specific parts in our system specs. I would think this can make it difficult to trouble shoot things, especially if there is a conflict between components. Any comments on this?

2. Corsair obviously makes CPU coolers. Why is there no section for your HSF/CPU cooler in the "my system specs" portion of the User CP?

...well, that's basically it. I love my 800D BTW, and I am going to rage on someone if I can't buy an H100 very, very soon.

1. The filter covers the whole forum. No way to exclude something like that. Also, people post comments (not posts) in their profile specs as well, so it ultimately needs the filter.

2. Only took 6 years for someone to ask lol. It's crossed my mind :)

Why have my system specs been censored?

I use ******** memory in some of my builds. So what?

I like ******** thumbdrives and ******** ssd's. Again, what's the problem?

Does Corsair actually have somebody whhose job it is to check the Forum Members system specs for parts other than Corsair and then censor them from the list?

Is Corsair so insecure that they cannot even acknowledge that there are other manufacturers that make similar products as theirs?

If that is so, then the staff at Corsair needs some serious psychological help.

I mainly, for now, use Corsair memory. I've never used a Corsair thumbdrive as I only use a couple and just buy whatever happens to be on sale when I need one. I've never tried a Corsair ssd as I go by the reviews on something that expensive and critical to my systems. So far, ******** happens to be the best. That may change. It's up to you, of course.

I use, among many others, a Corsair 700D case. It was what I needed at the time so I bought one.

No other manufacturers Forum which I belong to, and frequent, does anything as infantile as this. If Corsair is so insecure as to their products then I may have to start looking elsewhere for my computer needs.

What you've done just goes beyond all reason.

I've just noticed the same thing occuring with this very post. That's just plain sick! Seriously, get some help!

Actually, I did read all the rules of this Forum. I have no idea how many years ago that was. It was a different appearing Forum back then when memory was all that you sold. But I certainly do not remember this specific rule.

This still seems a rather silly rule. I've never flamed your products and don't see why Corsair is so insecure in acknowledging that there are other brands of products.

I'll abide by this rule, even though it goes against my Right to Free Speech under the Constitution of the United States of America, for which I actually fought, and almost died to uphold when I joined the United States Air Force. I joined when I was 17 and took my Oath to support the Constitution and had to wait until I was 17 1/2 before going on active duty and entering basic training. I started using computers when the PC became widespread as there was little else I could physically do after my service-connected disability discharge which ended my military career.

I've seen such behavior in foreign based Forums but never an American Forum.

This is a sad day for me and every other loyal American.

I am truly disappointed in you.

On the other hand this is very good for us both as I'll have far less problems with your products in the future with which I'll need any of your help.

Corsair is not the only forum that masks competitors names. google "Support practice here on the SSD forum" and see the top result.

the reason for the rule has been explained a few times in this thread already. (ie: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showpost.php?p=488882&postcount=63 )

in the beginning i also was annoyed by this rule, i couldnt even type the name of a famous antivirus brand because of it however knowing that it has proven to keep the peace and not fill the forums with "X is better than Y" threads it makes it a more professional environment to exist in.

the way i see it i dont think anyone working in the coca cola factory brings a pepsi in for lunch. restaurants dont allow you to bring in food from another restaurant either.

in short, this is a support forum for Corsair products and should remain the focus of a thread/discussion and even mentioning another competitor does nothing constructive to keep that focus.

believe me, i understand where you are coming from. please dont let it offend you, there are other good reasons for the rule that i can point out but i have to go to work now. :):
