jakebarber
I have had lots of trouble with this setup frezzing. I have done some research on ASUS forum as well as on other MBs that have NVIDIA nForce SLI chipset - it seems there maybe a problem with memory matching. I just want to know if there is a better memory match for this motherboard w/ an INTEL Core 2 Quad Q9300 CPU. I just want a stable system without overclocking at the present time. DerekT
Download Memtest86+ V2.01 from--->Here Download CPU-z from Here .You should be fine with that DRAM. You just need to set some custom values. Enter your BIOS. Load Setup Defaults, Save Setup Defaults and set to these values. Save and reboot. I have BIOS version 1602 on this MB, i have been only running with one stick of memory (I have read problems with Vista not seeing both sticks at first and wanted to get it running before putting in the second stick. I ran Memtest for 22 passes with no problems. I booted into Vista (64bit) and got a BSOD. Rebooted and repeated, twice. Each time the Blue screen was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. The last time during the reboot, it must have corrupted the registry (a message like that appeared) I ran the Vista DVD and tried to repair. The first time during the repair - got the same Blue screen, the second time it was PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Note: This MB was RMA'd back to ASUS and I got it back with no notes, assumed they either didn't find any problem or ?? (not sure what else to think). I know this MB is not on my favorites list and I don't recommend it to any person asking for advise. I sure would like to get it running though. Any help you can provide would be helpful!! DerekT
Since you past memtest, your error is external to the DRAM. Can you test a different hard drive?
jakebarber
I've gone in and reset all the BIOS settings back to what I had them before (all the items I have in red text, in my reply to your post) this (still one stick on memory and I did have it in the slot which is closest to the CPU) and tried to repair the problem - guess what? It worked! I am not able to run the computer. I will try again to make the settings in the BIOS as you first told me, but I think there maybe a setting which this MB & memory don't like together. The BIOS changes you asked me to make - was it for ver. 1602? I saw two settings which I couldn't find: Async Latency & Loadline Calibration. Neither of these are in my BIOS. DerekT
The Nvidia chipset is certainly touchy. Those two settings are not in your BIOS and I have reflected that in my documentation.
jakebarber
OK - Time to give up on this MB. Using your settings (note the setting I have (close to the top of this thread) in Red, I can get the system running most all the time, every-once-and-awhile it will freeze when shutting down) I can pass MemTest BUT whenever I try Vista 64, I get a bluescreen and it immediately reboots! So to avoid the hassle of this MB, what MB do you recommend with the following hardware I am going to keep: Intel Core Duo Quad Q9300 CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2x2GB) TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF EVGA e-Gforce 9800 GTX 512MB KO P/N:512-P3-N875-AR I really need to get this system up and running instead "playing/trying" to get it to run! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 28, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 28, 2008 There should not be any problem with that MB but with Vista you will have to install with just one module and then update to SP1 then you can install all of the modules and with 4 modules DDR800 would be suggested. jakebarber
I have only been running with one module in it. And I installed Vista 64 with only one module, this MB is VERY sporatic. It will freeze at odd times. I had to set various BIOS settings down to get it to run in any fashion.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 29, 2008 If you get the same results with either of the modules when testing them one at a time I would see the MB Maker can test/replace the MB for you. jakebarber
That is what I thought also. I RMA'd it to the vendor and the results I have been posting is the RAM'd board!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 29, 2008 Are you sure they dd not send you the same MB back?
jakebarber
I don't know if they didn't send the same MB back - I didn't get the original box when the shipped it back. IMPORTANT Question: I just noticed that I have CM2x2048-8500C5D memory modules. It doesn't have the "F" at the end - Is there any problem with using these memory modules with that MB? Sorry if this makes a difference and don't know why I didn't notice it before.
