music45
Hi, When using the memory configurator, a Gigabyte EP45-DS3 gets recommended this memory (among a lot of others) -> TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX Does this mean that it is 100% sure that the motherboard will select the correct memory settings directly and it will boot up? What does this tool actually garantie? Because I was actually thinking about buying these instead -> TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G Won't these work? Or do I have to manually change settings to get them working? I don't understand why they don't come up as an option in the memory configuration tool (since I see others using them with that specific motherboard). Thanks Peter. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 23, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 23, 2008 Either set should run great on the MB but you may have to increase the memory Voltage t+.1 Volts.
OldGeezer
I'm running TWIN2X4096-8500C5 with a DS3R. With the latest BIOS, it automatically selects all the memory settings (except voltage) just fine. I'm sure it will do same with 6400C5 memory. music45
Hi, Thanks for the quick reply:biggrin:. You know, I am on a strict budget for my PC build... ...but  the suggested memory (by the tool) -> TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX (444-12) seems like a really nice mem (reviews) and I think I will spend the extra to get it:sunglasse. To be able overclock the E8400... It is stated as 2.1 V memory, do you still suggest +0.1V on this as well? What's the maximum voltage allowed, or its hard to say:question: Thanks again, Peter
OldGeezer
TWIN2X4096-8500C5 runs a little bit faster. 1066 vs 800. Depending on your processor, you may not even see the difference. The 8500 actually turned out costing me less - I found it on sale and the 6400 was not. Either one should work just fine for you. Yes. Just set the voltage manually for 2.1 volts. I'm running my memory in the "extreme" configuration. I have no idea what that does. My system works with that setting, that's all.
007bont
I have no idea what that does. My system works with that setting, that's all. LOL, thats the most important thing ;):
OldGeezer
Yeah. They give me three options. Standard/Turbo/Extreme. I've tried them all and it doesn't seem to make a squat bit of difference with speeds. Maybe one of those feel-good settings? :sunglasse
