CompMan86
I have 4x1gb sticks of CM2X1024-8500C5 memory. I started getting weird issues where I'd copy large files in windows and the newly copied files would fail CRC check. I did a binary diff on them to find that a single bit had flipped. I ran memtest86+ v1.70 with all 4 sticks installed and started getting many errors (~50) within 1 minute. After some shuffling and re-testing, I found that if I install a certain 2 sticks in slots A and C, I get no errors in memtest. Then I pull the stick in slot C and replace it with one of the suspected bad sticks and I start getting errors. This behavior is consistent. I'm running the Asus Maximus motherboard, never overclocked, default memory settings. I think the board defaults to 2.2v, but when I looked in the bios, it was just set to Auto. It strikes me as weird that TWO sticks started misbehaving at basically the same time (though I've been having some weird instability the last 2-3 weeks...). The memory came in two packages of 2, but the two that are bad have non-consecutive serial numbers. Pretty sure it's one stick from each package that's bad. If I need an RMA, can I get the replacements cross-shipped? I want a whole new set of 4 so I get matching sticks, but I can't afford to have my computer out of commission for any length of time. Thanks for your help!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 20, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 20, 2008 Please test the modules one at a time with the latest version of http://www.memtest.org Ver 2.01 or newer and set the tested settings manually. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
CompMan86
What do you mean "set the tested settings manually"? Are you referring to the voltage and timings? If so, what should they be set to? Thanks!

CompMan86
I should also mention that I built this system in June and I haven't had any problems until about 2-3 weeks ago. And if the sticks are supposed to be identical, why would I get no errors with two of the sticks and many errors with the other two under identical testing conditions? CompMan86
Can I get the replacements cross shipped? I can't mail away all my memory, I can't afford to be without my computer for that long. Or can I send the two sticks that are bad, then once I get the replacements, mail the other two? I bought them in pairs so they would be from the same batch, and I have one from each pair that are bad.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 21, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 21, 2008 I would recommend that either you contact our customer service at 888-222-4346 and dial "0", (510) 657-8747 or email rmaservice@corsairmemory.com to find out what options may be available for your RMA, or you can just do two separate RMA's so that you have some memory to use while each set is replaced.
