Bengalerik
Hello! Decided to install my new corsair 1000watt power supply so I could install my 4870x2 video.. kinda rushed it and it doesnt seem there is any power getting to the motherboard. Even the little green led light doest come on. I am guessing (hoping) that I just have a loose connection some where.. Anyway, wondering if the power supply is supposed to be in the case fan side up, or fan side down? An embarrasing question i know :) Also, if its not correctly connected to the motherboard, am I correct in assuming that there will be no noise from the power supply and or the fan wont move??? thanks a bunch!!! Bengalerik
Ok.. I think the psu is ok.. case fans.. fan on the 4870x2, and cpu fans all run, but motherboard wont boot. Also.. the lights on the 4870x2 come on... the motherboard power light is on.. am I missing something? I have split the 8pin connector in half to plug it into the mb like the powersupply instructions say.. still no love! I double checked to make sure the new corsair ram I added was seated properly. The videocard seems seated properly.. Perhaps the harddrives are getting any power? I have them plugged into the black plugs as directed in the power supply instructions. The only thing i have plugged in to the power supply, is the blue ended cable that goes in to the 4 pin plug near the cpu. And i am certain the main motherboard cable is seated.. I am stuck!! thanks in advance for the help! Erik
Bengalerik
Ok.. now I am to the point where all of the fans are on, the motherboard light is on.. but still no bootup. and after a minute or so, it shuts back down. I have tried switching out the 4870x2 for the old 3870, and still no love. I am thinking I must still have something plugged in wrong. Am I correct in assuming its best to have one half of the eight pin that is hardwired plugged into the 4 pin plug on my motherboard or do I use the modular cable that says that on it? Also, it is possible reseting my cmos would help? Which i could do by just popping out the little battery once i find it? Any help would be appreciated.. I bought the 1000watt power supply to power the 4870x2 which I got for a crazy price and its killing me not being able to check it out ;) Finally.. could it be the motherboard doesnt like the new corsair memory I put in to get up to 4gb? Its the same corsair memory I have had in up to this point? thanks!!!! Erik

What you should plug near the cpu is the second 8 pin ATX 12 V connector. Normally you have 2 ATX connectors , the first one is the main board supply and is a 24 pins connector. The second one is a 4+4 pins (can be an 8pins and a 4 pins as well , you can use either one of the 4pins sets or both of them , in your case I guess it's only one 4pins set). Both of these ATX cables are directly attached to the PSU (it's not modular cables) Try to do that and tell us what happens.
Bengalerik
I tried that.. that is how it is plugged in now. When I figured that out I figured I was good to go. But not yet!! Is it possible that my mb being two years old.. just isnt like the big 1000watt power supply? Maybe a cmos reset will help it? I believe the bios is pretty current at least. thanks! erik
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 10, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 10, 2008 I would reset the CMOS, and then test the memory modules one at a time in multiple slots, just to rule out a memory related issue. The HX1000 should actually have 2x 4+4 Connectors, one of them is fixed to the PSU, and one of them is modular. Have you tried using the one that is attached to the PSU? Do you get any beep codes or error messages, or just a blank screen?
Bengalerik
Ok.. i popped out the cmos battery and popped it back in for the reset.. still no boot. took out the new memory.. still no boot.. The 4+4 connector that is attached to the psu is the one I am currently using. I get no beeps or anything.. blank screen.. drives dont access.. I am stumped and still hoping its just something minor!! Erik
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 10, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 10, 2008 I would try with a single memory module, and test with it in each slot on the board just to make sure that there is not a failing DIMM slot causing any problems. With a problem like this its a little hard to troubleshoot unless you have some spare parts to swap in and out. There is definitely a possibility that the PSU could be causing the problems, but if possible I would suggest testing it in a different system to see if you have similar results. If thats not an option and you would like to try getting it replaced, then please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”
Bengalerik
Unfortunately I do not have another system to test the power supply in.. but I can test the dimms as you say.. and I do have my previous supply still so i will test that as well! I will post results or lack of results :) erik
Bengalerik
So i put my old tiny power supply back in.. and the 3870.. and boom.. boots right up. Not prepared to give up on my new corsair power supply just let! Checking to see if maybe a bios update may help... Erik
Bengalerik
I ran out and bought the corsair 750watt power supply to try out. I am hoping that works in my current system. Then when I get the 1000watt replaced.. that will go in the system I hope to build in the next month or two. Wish me luck!!!! Erik
Bengalerik
Whew!!! After much staying up too late.. am finally up and running. The 750 watt corsair psu seems to be working fine with my system. Including the new 4870x2. So I will be rma'ing the 1000watt supply.. so I can get it replaced in time for me to build a new system! thanks for all the suggestions guys!!!
