Leedow
Hey. I recently bought a Corsair Voyager Mini 8GB. I use my flash drive every day but since my last one died after just 7 days of use (Super Talent Pico C 8GB) I figured that I'll buy a Corsair instead. I mostly use flash drives for storage of school related work. I use portable applications; firefox, open office, etc. I have a small problem with this device. The speed of loading an application is absolutely ridiculous. I'm talking about starting firefox 3.0.3 on 2 minutes. Open Office takes around 4 minutes. If i open three tabs from a google search result they take around 1 minute to load. The whole computer "slows" down. I have tried this on three different Windows XP Professional computers. The strange part about this is that it is really fast when I benchmark it. Always 0.5ms random access time and at least (average) 21MB/s sequential read. I do not own the Pro version of HD Tach so I can't test the write speeds. I also tested copying files to and from the usb drive and the result was all good. I used a Corsair Voyager 2GB as reference. Read speed was faster on the Mini, but write speed was just a bit slower. I don't mind a slower write speed, as long as it is fast "enough", as it clearly is. This is really frustrating because the benchmark and the real world test is great but when I use it for school work with portable apps it's really slow. Anyone else with these problems? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 8, 2008 Please try to format the drive from a command prompt with this syntax: Format (X:) /FS:FAT32 /U (X=the drive letter assigned to the Flash Voyager) Then Please try the HD-Bench software to test the performance. The write should be about 8 MBps and the Read should be about 20 MBps.

This one is: http://www.hdbench.net/ja/hdbench/index.html I ran the program (100MB) and I got 30,7MB/s read and 6,1MB/s write. 200MB gave me 30,8MB/s read and 6.5MB/s write. Like I said, the benchmarking is all good especially the read part. I can't understand how a Corsair Voyager 2GB/8GB can be so much better than this new Voyager Mini when it comes to loading portable applications. Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 13, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 13, 2008 Thanks for pointing out the problem with the link to HD Bench and I have updated that link. I do not have a problem replacing the drive as it is a bit low on write performance if you like please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. And the Mini Flash Drives are made to small in size and more convenient than they are for performance.
