Zeel
So, I just got my new system delivered, and I was wondering about the bottom mounted fan on the HX620. My case (Twelve Hundred) has the PSU mounted in the bottom, which means I have to turn the PSU upside down according to the Antec manual. What I was wondering is if I have to have it mounted upside down, especially since theres about 15mm of clearance between the bottom of the case and the PSU fan (the PSU rests on 15mm rubber dampers). I would love to have the PSU mounted with the fan facing downwards (both for ease of cable managment and aestethics), but is the clearance too little for efficient air flow? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 8, 2008 Should be no problem installing the PSU right side up if you have that much clearance.
Zeel
Actually, I just measured (with a proper ruler this time), and the clearance is 10 mm at best, less than that in some places. Would it still be enough airflow? If it isn't and I have to turn the PSU the ATX cable won't reach, and surprisingly 24 pin ATX extenions are hard to come buy at my local PC dealer :(. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 8, 2008 As long as air is able to circulate through the bottom of the PSU you shouldn't have any problems. 10mm should be fine, in most cases.
Zeel
Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated! I guess I'll try with the PSU right side up and see how it goes. Good thing theres a 120 mm intake fan blowing over the HDD's and onto the PSU

tonschk
Is better to drill some small holes in a grill fashion or cut out a 120mm hole http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z58/tonschk/piedsbbbb.jpg http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z58/tonschk/100_0141.jpg
JoeBob
The only beef I have with that is that it can be a potentially bad dust collector, but if you don't have a dust problem, then should be just fine. :)
