johnnyrod
Hi, I used the compatability tool for my mobo but I wanted to doubel check what I can and can't fit before I buy, I've already been stiffed once by a vendor. I want to upgrade to 1-2GB, my mobo can take 184 pin DIMMs up to 1GB per slot (2 slots). The BIOS (Award) has the following settings, as well as an Auto setting: CAS latency 2 or 2.5 bank interleave - disabled, 2 or 4 (thre are also 2 SDR slots, empty) precharge to active (trp) 2T or 3T Active to precharge (Tras) 5T or 6T Active to CMD (Trcd) 2T or 3T DRAM burst length 4 or 8 DRAM command rate 1T or 2T I assume the "auto" setting that looks at the memory EEPROM and determines the settings to us will still be limited to these anyway? FSB is 133MHz. Compatability results here http://www.corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=3478 I think the TRAS setting will be a pain but I'm a novice in this really so please can you recommend? Many thanks, JR
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 8, 2008 What is the part number of the modules and how many are installed or will be installed?
johnnyrod
I was thinking about VS2GBKIT400C3 but I think it's the Tras setting which should be 8 and mine will only go up to 6. If I read the numbers right then should I get TWINX2048-3200C2PT? Althought this is for 2.75V and I believe mine works at 2.5V? 1GB each in 2 slots. All the Corsair recommendations for this mobo are on the page link above, but I wasn't so sure that I had a sufficient range of settings in the BIOS, or what the effect of using the wrong settings would be. Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 10, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 10, 2008 I would go with the VS2GBKIT400C3, it would require no manual configuration. The settings are programmed into the SPD of the modules, so the board will set everything automatically, although in some cases you may want to just load the setup defaults in the BIOS to make sure. The 3200C2 modules would work as well, but you would need to enter the BIOS and set the memory voltage to 2.75v. If you think you might be overclocking in the future, go with the 3200C2 as they will have a bit more overhead, otherwise the VS2GBKIT400C3 should work just fine. johnnyrod
Many thanks, I've trawled the BIOS and manual and I can't alter the voltage, so 2.5V it is. Final question is, the VS2GBKIT400C3 is spec'd at 2.6V and I am fixed at 2.5V, so is it going to run fine or should I use VS1GB333 which works at 2.5V and is otherwise pretty similar. Maybe I'm splitting hairs. Thanks for your help
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 13, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 13, 2008 JEDEC Spec for DDR400 would be 2.6 Volts, I would suggest asking the MB maker if that information is correct and or if they do have the option to set the memory Voltage to be sure. johnnyrod
Hi, looks like the voltage si fixed at 2.5V
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 14, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 14, 2008 I would suggest calling and asking them as that would need non standard memory and we do not offer 2.5 Volt DDR400 memory. sorry!
johnnyrod
So would VS1GB333 be fine? 2.5V and settings seem to fit with my mobo. The only reason I started looking at DDR400 was that it was suggested to me by a vendor, although as you can see I didn't trust their initial suggestion. I have no plans for overclocking, just to make it run properly as it is maxed out all the time currently.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 15, 2008 Yes they will be no problem at 2.5 Volts.
