Xenophi
Hi, A few days ago I upgraded my trustworthy Corsair 620HX to its big brother 1000HX as I want to try a Crossfire setup when I get a second ATI 4870 graphics card. This upgrade has been a total disappointment. First time I booted up the computer with the new PSU, Vista 64bit froze at the login window. It had never done that before. After a few reboots I could enter Vista, but only for a short time (between 5-20 minutes) as the machine would freeze. The problems are even more worse now. When I enter the BIOS, it will lockup within 1 minute. I have cleared the bios many times already. Now Vista will freeze long before the GUI is loaded. I have even removed the RAM modules (twin2x4096-8500) and only run with 1 stick at different slots. Everything runs 100% stock. Complete lockups all the time. I will try to put back the 620HX and see if it cures my problems. I read another post at this forum who had a similar problem with his 1000HX, and the problems were fixed when he re-installed his 750TX. What to do? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 7, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 7, 2008 First I would run http://www.memtest.org to rule out any memory related issues, then I would suggest testing the video cards one at a time to make sure that they both work in the system individually. You may also want to test them both with just the 12v1 and then just the 12v2 PCIE cables powering them, to make sure both rails are working properly. Let us know your results! Xenophi
Thanks for your response. I did try to run memtest but it rebooted within 1-2 minutes without any errors. On the 620HX i could run memtest86+ for up to 12 hours without any errors. However there has been an improvement concerning the PSU. I only run with a single ATI 4870 in my system, as I have not bought the second card yet. To begin with the the GFX card was powered by the 2 fixed PCI-E connecters. Yesterday evening I removed one of the fixed PCI-E Connector and attached a PCI-E cable to the blue socket. The result is better stability but the machine will still lockup from time to time, and the computer will always freeze when entering Vista from a sleep state. I have had none of these issues with the previous PSU. The only thing in my setup which was changed, was the PSU. I will try to power the GFX card from both blue sockets and see if it cures my remaining problems. However, as I understand it, the fixed PCI-E power cables should be more than able to power the GFX card.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 8, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 8, 2008 If you have not done so since installing the new PSU, I would suggest that you load setup defaults in the BIOS and reconfigure your settings. If you still have the same problems, and you do no have any issues with the HX620, then lets get the HX1000 replaced. Please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”
Xenophi
Hi, I have reset the BIOS, and the computer constantly freezes either in BIOS, during initial Vista startup or during Vista GUI start. Sometimes I have to reset the computer a few times before it starts up in Vista. I even tried to power my ATI 4870 from the 2 blue PCI-E sockets instead of the 2 fixed PCI-E cables. As I had given my brother my 620HX I have borrowed a CoolerMaster RealPower M700. All my troubles dissappeard after installing this PSU. No more freezing. As I live in Denmark I can RMA the unit to the webshop, but my fear is that they might reject the RMA as it works (in a way) and maybe they won't spend the time to replicate the freezing errors I ran into, and thereafter just send back the same unit. If it is not a problem I might just RMA it directly to Corsair...

Xenophi
Thanks for your reply. When sending back the PSU to Corsair, should I just return the PSU itself or should I also include the bag with modular cables? I still have the original packaging. Thanks, Martin
