DOA Power Supply?

I recently bought a Corsair 620watt power supply from Newegg.com and I believe it might be DOA. I build this computer yesterday and when I try to boot it up, it will stay on for about 2-5 seconds and then power down. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Plugged everything in EXCEPT the 4/8-pin motherboard cable, found that it runs smoothly but will not display a picture... going to research... can anyone help me?

For me it seems impossible that the CPU starts without plugging in the 4/8 pin ATX cable.

When you start your system that way (without that cable plugged) try to measure the voltage of the 4/8 pin cable (using a multimeter for exemple). If the value you're measuring does not respect the specs (12V +- 5%) then this will probably mean that there's a problem with the PSU.

I would suspect an issue with either the board or the CPU, but you may want to test the PSU in a different system to be sure. It sounds like something is triggering the PSU to shut off, because if there were a failing component in the PSU which caused it to shut itself off, then it would likely shut itself off consistently in all scenarios.

What happens when you try to power on the system with the 8-pin cable plugged into the motherboard? Does the PSU turn on and stay on when you try this?
