Windows XP stability issues

I have had a lot of stability issues, XP locks up randomly. I have updated the BIOS, drivers, Windows updates, etc. Also, I manually set the BIOS for the recommended memory settings: 9-9-9-24 and 1.8v. All speed and voltages aside from the memory voltage noted above are set at the defaults.

I have run MemTest86+ v2.01 and have successfully passed the testing with both RAM sticks in the black colored DIMM slots 2 & 3. After completed these memory tests, I booted up Windows XP, opened up a news video from the internet and the PC locked up again.

Do you have recommendations to isolate the issue? Your Memory Configurator tool does not include the new nForce 790i Ultra SLI motherboard, so I am not sure the RAM I am using is appropriate.

Thanks.

With Vista you will have to install it with only one module then update to SP1 to run 4 Gig.

And did you test the modules one at a time to make sure one was not failing or weak?

And what is the error you get in XP? If its Video related I would try and uninstall the Video driver and just use the Default Windows driver for a bit to see if its the Video Driver causing the problem.

I took your advice and removed one RAM module, I was able to install Vista as a second OS with XP. After updating the MB and graphics drivers, I was still having some stability issues but I think they are with the graphics card. Within Vista, I tried to run the Windows Experience Index and the monitor turned off and the PC locked up. Well, I think that pretty well describes my Windows experience.

I have since increased the graphics fan speed from 40% to 65% and everything appears to be working in both XP and Vista. Now it is time to load Crysis and let it rip or RIP.
