SteveMac
With installation of one pair, the BIOS correctly reports the detected memory at 1066 Mhz, and the WinXP-64 appears to boot. But on installing the 2nd memory pair, the BIOS incorrectly reports 1791M rather than 4096M, and the OS immediately reports a blue screen, then recycles. I have upgraded the BIOS from F7 to F10, and I have set the timings to 5-5-5-15 and the voltage to 2.1 Volts as read in other forum threads, but with no improvement. I am using the NVIDIA 9600 GT card with this Intel Q8200 CPU (2.33 GHz) based system. I appreciate your thoughts. Has Corsair characterized this memory for fully populated boards? I am not a tweaker, so I am new at addressing problems as this detail.
OldGeezer
There seems to be an issue when memory fully populates a motherboard. Try slowing the speed to DDR800. RAMGUY will no doubt give you an additional voltage tweak.
SteveMac
Did I spend more money than I should have by purchasing 1066 Mhz memory, and now seeing recommendations that I should throttle them back to 800 Mhz? Am I giving up substantial performance here?
OldGeezer
You won't notice the difference. If you had bought 800 memory, you would need to throttle it back to 667.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 2, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 2, 2008 No all of the modules would need to match and with 4 modules of Twin2x sets DDR800 would be suggested and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.2 Volts as well. But test the modules one at a time to be sure one is not failing.
SteveMac
I guess I just need info on how to perform the throttle-back. Is RAMGUY the man?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 2, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 2, 2008 If the setting is not obvious to you in the BIOS setup I would suggest asking the MB maker they will know their BIOS better than me.
OldGeezer
In the M.I.T. section, go down to DRAM Performance Control. Set the system memory multiplier until you see a frequency of 800 under Memory Frequency (MHZ). System memory Multiplier is probably set to Auto in your default configuration.
