nademon
Hi. I own a HX1000 PSU which I bought some months back when it first became available here in Toronto, Canada. The issue I am having has been grinding away at me until this point and I can't take it anymore. The unit has developed an intermittent chattering that is eminating from the PSU fan area. I searched all over this forum and saw another post similar to this problem and tried the solution recommended. I stopped the fan with a non-conductive material and the sound immediately ceased. I then tried loosening the fan screws 1/4 turn and still the noise persists. I am so very frustrated as I don't have a backup PSU that's going to have enough juice to run my setup and I need my computer for work related stuff. So, my question is this: How long will the RMA process take? I'm going to be left high and dry until I get the unit repaired/replaced. I feel I have no choice left but to RMA the unit especially considering how much I paid for it and how little use it has seen to have developed a problem so soon. I'm just really dissappointed because I took a chance on your first 1000w PSU after having tried the HX620 with no issues (which I no longer have). Could you please advise me as to the how long I should expect to be out a PSU and what the process would be (i.e. do I have to cover the cost of shipping? Do I have to send back everything like the all the cables too or just the PSU itself). I would appreciate a quick reply as I just don't know what I'm going to do in the meantime without my machine running as I can't presently afford to buy another PSU. Thanks, Nademon P.S. In case it makes a difference, I have the PSU mounted sideways in a Thermaltake Armor case.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 1, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 1, 2008 Do you hear the noise randomly, or is it only under certain conditions, such as when running a 3D application? Normally you would pay shipping to us, and we would pay shipping back to you. The turnaround time should be 7-10 business days, however I would suggest that you contact our customer service at 888-222-4346 and dial "0", (510) 657-8747 or email rmaservice@corsairmemory.com to see if any other options may be available. To receive an RMA number, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”
nademon
Hey ramguy...thanks for the quick reply..though I'm late in getting back to you. The noise I hear is independant of the tasks I'm performing. It happens even when the computer is at idle so I guess it's RMA time. I really do appreciate your response in such a timely manner. I will contact Customer Service and see what options area available to me as I can't afford any downtime at present. thanks again and I'll let ya'll know what happens. nademon
Hey Ramguy...thx for the previous advice. I did contact Corsair and they ended up sending me a replacement. First of all, the UPS guy said I had to pay $83.86 for brokerage and tax?? Secondly, the new PSU doesn't even work. I spent so much time taking apart my system and then reassembling it as the PSU is so big there's no other way to get it into my case. I hooked everything up, turned on the PSU and something strange happened. I have a maximus formula witht the LCD poster. the mobo lights and LCD kept flashing on and off for about 15 seconds and then finally went off. I cycled the power switch on the PSU and they flashed a few more times before finally coming on solid. I cycled the power switch on the PSU one more time, this time came on and stayed on. I then tried to power up the system...nothing. The system just wouldn't turn on. I tried turning it on with the power switch on the actual motherboard as well as the case power button...no luck. I then disonnected everything except the mobo power connectors...still won't power up. Cycled the PSU switch again and then it wouldn't even light up the mobo lights anymore. No sounds...no smells...just no power. I then hooked up my original PSU to the power connectors only and...VOILA! Everything powers on perfectly. So I tried the new one again...no luck. Now what should I do? I shouldn't have had to pay anything for the RMA unit even though it came across the border as it's a warranty replacement. Plus, the unit seems to be non-functional. I've even left messages with the customer service department and never get called back. I'm quickly losing my patience with this situation. Could you please advise me as to how I should proceed? I think I'm at the very least entitled to a refund of the UPS COD charges and a PSU that works properly. Thanks in advance for your help.
