ZzarkZul
Hey all, this memory has been working good for a while now with no problems. I use 4 gigs of ram, although my computer doesn't see it all, just 3.25 because it's 32 bit vista. I have 4 1 gig sticks on my IP35 Pro MB. After buying a new heatsink for my CPU, i rebuilt my computer because I had to install a back plate to hold the new thing on. Well, as i was unplugging everything, i had to remove one of the ram sticks to get a good grip to remove the power to the MB. As i removed it, i noticed some of the gold was missing off of a couple of the columns. So i continue with out thinking anything of it, and put the stick of ram in. When I started it up, the computer would not boot anymore, not even a post. then i removed this stick of ram, and it started up with out a hitch. Don't think it was me miss handling the memory, it looks brand new except for a couple of the little gold columns coming off. (its like, peeling off from the top down) Should I RMA it, or what, i've never had a problem with computer parts. I do believe it is peeling off, i see some copper or if mistaken, some reddish orange stuff behind where the gold should be. Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 1, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 1, 2008 I would test a different module in that same slot, just to make sure the issue is not with the DIMM slot. You might also try taking a pencil eraser to the gold pins that look like they may not be solid to see if you can clean them up a bit. If you still have the same problems then we will want to get the pair of them replaced. Please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”
ZzarkZul
Yeah, forgot to mention i tried the eraser thing, but I will try the different module in that dimm, and try this module one last time. Thanks. Oh yeah, Do i have to return 2 modules, or just the one thats broken? I have the CM2X1024-6400. I saw somewhere that you only need to return if its the Twinx or something, not sure, would like to have that verified. one last thing, my motherboard is running my ram at 1.81v, but the specs on these modules say 1.9. Should I leave it at 1.81 or increase to 1.9? Thanks for the help!
ZzarkZul
Well, i rubbed it some more with an eraser. While it didn't look like it did anything at all, I stuck the stick of ram back into the computer(in the same dimm slot), and it started up just fine, weird. I'll leave it in, but if i have anymore problems with it i'll send it in. Thanks for the help Ram Guy.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 2, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 2, 2008 Glad to hear its working! I would set the memory voltage manually to 1.9 volts with these modules, and let us know if you run into any more issues!
