james-dean
Hello: Here are my BIOS settings for my ASUS P5Q-E MB. I have just installed 8GB Corsair Twin2x4096-8500CSD Memory. I have Vistax64. BIOS Settings DRAM Frequency: DDR2-1066MHZ DRAM CLK Skew on Channel A1,A2,B1,B2: all set to "Auto" DRAM timing Control: "Auto" 1st Information: 5-5-18-3-52-6-3 2nd Information: 7-3-5-4-6 3rd Information: 14-5-1-6-6 DRAM Static Read Control: "Auto" DRAM Read Training: "Auto" DRAM Voltage: 2.10 NB Voltage: "Auto" NB GTL Reference: "Auto" SB Voltage: "Auto: CPU Temp: 38-40 Cel MB temp: 32 Cel In post my memory appears as such: (8GB, 1066MHZ- Duel-Channel Interleaved) In Vista my Memory is seen as 8GB However I have had a blue screen come up once saying a critical error has occured (or something like). Before I installed this RAM I never had that happen. I just need to make sure the above BIOS and POST information is correct. I know very little of "DRAM Timing Control" 1st Information, 2nd Information, 3rd Information I know on the box my Memory came in it reads: "Tested at EPP SPD Settings 5-5-5-15-2T 2.1V Values" Once again, can someone let me know if my BIOS and POST is correct? Thanks very much
DerekT
When you populate all four DRAM slots, it is advised to drop the bandwidth. Please research this thread: http://www.houseofhelp.com/v3/showthread.php?t=64360&highlight=Unpredictable+results+QUAD2X4096+Gigabyte+X38-DS5 I advise you to set your DRAM to 800Mhz. james-dean
Thanks for the response Derek. It would have been nice for Corsair to warn about such things on their package. I bought (and spent more money) specifically because of the 1066mhz. Speaking of the package, it mentions this RAM should only be used with x64 systems. x64 systems frequently have 8gigs RAM which would use (almost always) all four slots (most boards have only 4). Regardless I have Memset 3.5.7beta loaded on my computer here is more RAM info: Chipset Intel P45/G45 Memory DDR2 525MHZ Duel Channel Cas# Latency 5 RAS# to CAS# read delay 5 RAS# to CAS# Write delay 5 RAS# Precharge 5 Precharge delay 18 All precharge to activate 6 refresh Cycle time 52 Performance level 6 Write to precharge delay 14 Write to read delay 11 Act to act delay 3 Read to write delay 7 Read to precharge 5 All precharge to refreash delay 6 refresh period 4171 Command rate 2T SPD Info: Manufacturer: Corsair Type: CM2x2048-8500C5D PC2-4300(270MHZ) SPD Timings: EEP JEDC#0 JEDC#1 CAS# Latency 5 5 4 RAS# to CAS# delay 5 5 4 RAS# precharge 5 5 4 Precharge Delay 15 18 13 Command Rate 2T Row Cycle time 22 23 16 Refresh Cycle Time 68 51 35 Row to row delay 4 3 3 Write recovery time 8 6 5 Write to read delay 4 3 3 Read to precharge 4 3 3 Refresh rate 7.8us 7.8us 7.8us voltage 2.10v 1.8v 1.8v If someone sees a problem with any of these readings please let me know. 007bont
you could try it with setting the dram voltage to 2.1volt and set the northbridge to 1.4 / 1.55 (depending on your system)
Wired
It would have been nice for Corsair to warn about such things on their package. It's a memory controller issue, not a memory stick issue. The only thing you have to worry about when using 4 sticks that relates to the actual sticks is that they're identical. In the case of Corsair DDR2/3 sticks, that they have the same part # / version #. Note that since Corsair doesn't test TWIN packs w/ each other, they can't guarantee this, but it should work. QUAD packs are 4 sticks tested together however. Speaking of the package, it mentions this RAM should only be used with x64 systems. x64 systems frequently have 8gigs RAM which would use (almost always) all four slots (most boards have only 4).That's just a poorly worded warning about the limitations of Windows (32 bit). They are all the same sticks, yes thank you QUOTE:007bont "you could try it with setting the dram voltage to 2.1volt and set the northbridge to 1.4 / 1.55 (depending on your system)" I have cranked the NB Voltage up to 1.4v, the DRAM Voltage has been already set to 2.1v. Thank You Does anyone else have any suggestions? or does my informatiion above look correct? Thank you again
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 29, 2008 With 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667 or DDR800 and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.2 Volts as well and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
james-dean
RAM Guy: Thanks for your reponse: I have set NB to 1.4v. ARE you saying set it to .2 above that or .2 above what the "auto" is set to? Also I don't know where to look in the BIOS for MCH or SPP. As you can see in my first post That is all I know where to look for concerning voltage or RAM. Please help. As for changing from 1066MHZ to 800MHZ, doesn't that defeat the purpose of having high powered DDR2 RAM on a x64 system? After all, I could have spent $100 less for 800MHZ RAM right? or will it still help having 1066MHZ Dominator RAM running slower? I hope I have made sense :) Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 29, 2008 For your MB it will be called NB Voltage and yes set to +.2 Volts over default which is normally 1.1 to 1.3 Volts look in the BIOS and take it off AUTO it will normally show the default as the first voltage.
