thespy007
So my 4870x2 takes a 6 pin and 8 pin pcie cable. My 8 pin pcie cable came in today, but it has two pcie inputs. My power supply only has two pcie outputs. If i use this cable i wont be able to use my 6 pin pcie cable. What am i supposed to do?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 22, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 22, 2008 Each PCIE cable only plugs into one port on the HX620. Some cables may have 2x PCIE connectors on them, but you still only plug in one connector per cable into the PSU.
varkanoid
Hi, don't think you have answered correctly. The 4870x2 needs a 6pin and 8pin connector. If the 8pin connector lead requires 2 x 6pin PCIE inputs, then these can only be obtained from PCIE1 and PCIE2 from the PSU. This therefore leaves another 6 pin connector from the PSU required to the 6 pin on the 4870 x 2. Question is where does it come from ? Do you use a molex to 6 pin and feed it off one of the Jx connectors ? ie PSU > PCIE1 output > -------------+--------------->2x6 pin input > 8 Pin on GPU Card PSU > PCIE2 output > you then need to connect another 6 pin lead to the GPU card. Where does this come from ?
Wired
http://www.corsair.com/products/hx/default.aspx There's no need for extra cables. Since it comes with two PCI-E 6+2 cables, one is used for the 6 pin connection, and another for the 8 pin connection. Never heard of an 8 pin conversion cable that requires 2 (6+2) cables going to it. That would be redundant.

Just been out to shops to buy another Corsair PSU the 650W one which has the 8 pin PCIE. So problem solved.

The HX-620 was introduced before the 8 pin PCI-e standard was so, the original cables do not come with 8 pin connectors. We have new cables with 6 pin and 8 pin connectors and you can get them from customer service.
