Numbers on the stick are: G08G NMC860543 08266011-0 Tried it in Ubuntu 8.04.1, Ubuntu 7.04, Mandriva 2007, Knoppix 5.1.1, all the same result. These included kernel versions 2.6.19, 2.6.20 and 2.6.24. Interestingly, CentOS 4.2 (which is basically Red Hat) at kernel version 2.6.9, seems to accept the device without complaint. So I guess the stick is not physically damaged, since it works in Windows and older Linux kernels. But it is useless to me because it's incompatible with newer Linux kernels. Can I get it swapped, or have I wasted £20? I'm in the UK. Thanks!
PeteC
... we will be happy to replace it. Thanks for the offer, and such a quick response, but... replace it with what? Do you really think that this is a bad part? Or do you have equivalent-but-different models which are known to be Linux compatible? Thanks again! PeteC
Great news, I'll send the drive back and hope for one with newer firmware. Thanks!
PeteC
NP please let me know if you have any problems and I will make sure it gets resolved. Well I posted it to the Netherlands (from the UK) on 24th July using the address label given in the email. But the RMA page is still showing up as "Defective parts not yet received" (RMA #1065948). How long would you expect this to take?
PeteC
No that would suggest that this one application or version of Linux may have to be updated or my have some bug is what it tells me. And first and foremost you have remember that this is open source software, its not like Microsoft or Apple OSX or NOVEL. It does not work that way. I would suggest working with the maker of the O.S. or software and if they have a QVL list of hardware I would suggest using that, but I have never seen an Open source Vendor produce something like that. RAM Guy, you generally seem very helpful but this is at best questionable logic and at worst deception. Corsair's marketing info for the Voyager (here) claims compatibility with "Linux 2.4 and later". On this thread and others, there have been multiple reports of this exact same bug on many different versions of Linux, some of them several years old. All of them however meet the requirement "Linux 2.4 and later". Your response always seems to be "lets get the drive replaced". Well I've had mine RMA'd at your suggestion and returned to me with the exact same problem. Of course it's possible that a version of Linux might contain a bug (apparently one that somehow affects only Corsair but leaves other brands of USB drive working fine). In which case your QA guys needs to stop claiming "2.4 and later" and start listing the incompatible versions. I could tell you at least four just from my experience. If you claimed "Win 95 or later" and it didn't work under XP or Vista, people would be annoyed, right? Would you tell them to complain to Microsoft? So please don't tell us to go complaining to our Linux vendor when it was Corsair themselves who told us that these drives would work. I did my research before purchasing, and now I find that I was misled. Like Patrice Hédé (in previous posts on this thread), I've now asked my reseller for a refund because I see no sign from these forums that Corsair are acknowledging the problem, let alone offering a solution. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 17, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 17, 2008 Split to your own post. If you have had it replaced and still have the same issue then we will want to look it a bit differently. What is the lot number on the usb connector? And what is the specific version of Linux you have the problem with. Copied all of his post to this thread so we can try to solve the problem? EDIT: Looking at your posts makes it much easier to see the problem with all of your posts in one thread, I suspect the drive you have has a newer controller based on prolific and we will want to get it replaced and also from your posts it seems the RMA was done with one of our branch offices and may be why it was not resolved. Please send me an email with your previous RMA number and your contact information so I can arrange a proper replacement. Ramguy@corsairmemory.com and put ATT Ram Guy in the subject line and a link to this thread.
axion
Hello, I have a fix for this problem after having posted it for a differently branded stick, but with the same prolific controller on bugzilla.
