christinme7890
So i just bought 4 gigs (4x1gig) of the Corsair XMS2 ram with amazing timing (3x4x3x9 at 2.4v) and everything seems to be going well with the ram and I am playing a game and i get a bsod screen. I ran the memtest from that website (can't remember the website). It gives me 7 errors and I just end up stopping it because it hits 7 errors by 7% total. Windows will run fine at times but then at random it will bsod. Here is my hardware and cmos settings i also did my own settings in the cmos 3x4x3x9 1.9 volts (that was the max my mobo would go) the rest is on auto
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 16, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 16, 2008 I am sorry but if you cannot set the tested voltage that MB will never support those timings, I would try them at Cas 5-5-5-15 and see if its stable. christinme7890
yeah, that is what i did. I am at school right now but, last night the computer reset the timings to 5-5-5-18 (and i don't know the voltage, that was auto set but my mobo only supports 1.95 highest and the memory requires 2.2v which makes sense that the timings set lower would need more power and because the mobo can only provide 1.95v it would not be able to support the timings). Those are the numbers that my computer sets to auto when i clear the bios. Those numbers work and pass the vista ram test and the memtest.org test. I can't accept those numbers considering that i paid a good bit of money for memory that would be faster than my standard memory. I can actually drop my timings to 4-4-4-14 and still pass the two tests. I actually ordered a new mobo (asus m3a78 Pro) in order to support this ram (hopefully). I have run into problems before with the m2n-e mobo and ram so i am not satisfied in that way. I don't know if the mobo will work but the description said that there are 9 voltage settings for RAM and the m2n-e only has 4 voltage settings. I also have been getting a heat warning from the asus software probeII. I don't know if that is a accurate warning or whatever.
christinme7890
my next issue is, can i install the new mobo and not have to reinstall my OS....can i just replace my mobo and not have to worry about installing the software and os all over again. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 17, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 17, 2008 No you will need to delete the partition and format the drive and do a fresh install of the O.S. and I would NOT do a Quick Format.
christinme7890
thanks for your help ram guy. I hate to install vista 64bit all over since it takes a few hours to update the whole computer/os to get it to the way i like it. Deleting all the bloatware and installing all the dumb patches (I have one of the first versions to come out so it has no SP included =(). I just hate to install everything all over again. Oh well that is what i get for having a stable computer.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 18, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 18, 2008 I am sorry but that is a limitation of the O.S. you might talk to Microsoft and see what they say.
