johnnyfabulous
ok got the 4 gig set to make the pc have 4 gigs after running the 2 gig set with the following settings flawlessly p5k3 deluxe latest bios q6600 375 fsb (1503 dram freq) 9-7-7-18 auto voltage (ram/cpu/nb) took out the 2 gig set and put in the 4 gig set and have had bsod's and freeze ups for the past 2 months trying different combinations (the same as above, stock, etc,) tried the stock settings (1333/9-9-9-24/1.7) and it froze so i tried 1333/9-9-9-24/auto voltage and just froze up (takes a day or two)so i just yanked it out and put the 2 gig set back in since it was bulletproof until i have time to try again since i can only mess with it on the weekends due to living at my shool (nc state university) using vista 64 ultimate/xp pro sp3 in a dual boot but just use xp 2 hours a week to apply norton/windows updates ran the sticks with memtest+ and got errors with it oc'd but no errors after 1 pass with the stock settings i read about using 1.6 or 1.5v. do i need to try it even though my labels say ver 3.2 1.7v? just give me some suggesstions and i'll try them over the weekend due to my pursuit of a future and i'll reply as necessary. thanks for the help and the good memory in all my other pc's. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 16, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 16, 2008 It would seem that if you set these settings the modules pass is that correct and if the answer is yes then I am sorry there is not much we can do and its not uncommon to see 1.0 Gig module perform differently mostly because of loading on the memory controller as they would single rank where as the two Gig modules would be double rank in most cases. Please make sure that you have the latest bios and load setup defaults and then set the memory Voltage to 1.8 Volts then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org to be sure one is not failing. If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
johnnyfabulous
tested them one at a time with the stock settings and 1.8 volts/no legacy usb and got no errors. I never runned it at 1.8 on stock in windows so i'll try that and switch back to the 2 gig set if it freezes. This was my first build from about a year ago. If i would of known about ddr3 stability/expense and the high latency, i would have got a p5k deluxe (at that time) and the set of 2x2 dominator ddr2-1066 cl5. could it be the mem controller if i say it freezes when converting videos with convertxtodvd? thanks. 007bont
you could try to increase the northbridge voltage to 1.45 and see if that helps.
johnnyfabulous
running it at stock settings at 1.8 volts and nb voltage at 1.40 (choices were 1.25,40,and 55) seems good so far but will post again if i run into trouble thanks for the suggestion.
