Dave3d
Hello. Not sure if this is the correct location for this post or not. I didnt see a 'memory' specific section (OC only section for memory). I am trying to get my system stable. It will crash at 'mobo' default settings of 1333 on the memory while gaming. If I use EPP settings, it sets it memory to 1600 (unlinked), and crashes on desktop load. If I put the memory on ANY setting over 1333, it crashes on desktop load. So, basically, it crashes on 1333 AND on reference 1600. Can anyone help? Thanks.

DerekT
Download Memtest86+ V2.01 from--->Here. Download CPU-z from Here. For your DRAM to run at 1600Mhz you must set your FSB to 400Mhz to achieve the 1:1 ratio that Intel demands as a minimum. Enter your BIOS. Load setup defaults, save setup defaults and set to these values: Extreme Tweaker CPU Level Up = Disabled Memory Level Up = Disabled AI Overclock Tuner = Manual CPU Multiplier = 10 FSB - Memory Clock Mode = Unlinked FSB (QDR) = 1600 (400) MEM (DDR) = 1600 (800) LDT Frequency = 5X PCIE BUS, Slot 1 & 2, Mhz = 100 PCIE BUS, Slot 3, Mhz = 100 SPP <--> Ref Clock, Mhz = 200 Memory Timing Section tCL (CAS Latency) = 9 tRCD = 9 tRP = 9 tRAS = 24 Command Per Clock = 2T Advanced Memory Settings tRRD = Auto tRC = Auto tWR = Auto tWTR = Auto tFAW = Auto tREF = Auto Over Voltage = All Set to Auto CPU Configuration CPU Internal Thermal Control = Auto Lmit CPUID MaxVal = Disabled Execute Disable Bit = Enabled Virtualization Technology = Enabled Enhanced Intel Speedstep(tm) Tech = Disabled CPU Core 2 = Enabled CPU Core 3 = Enabled CPU Core 4 = Enabled System Voltages CPU Core = Auto CPU FSB = Auto Memory = 1.7v nForce SPP = Auto nForce MCP = 1.55 HT nForce SPP <-> MCP = Auto Run Memtest for two full passes. When assured of stable DRAM, then enter Windows and run CPU-z. Please post screenshots of the CPU-z CPU, Memory and SPD tabs. If you have memory issues, remove one stick and Memtest with one stick in the slot closest to the CPU. Remove the stick and test with the second one in place. Results? Dave3d
I will run memtest tonight. But, again, I cannot go over 1333 without the computer crashing on bootup. I cant even do 1334 on the memory. And a cpu-z screenshot should not be warrented, with all of the bios info I just posted (which shows 10 times more than cpu-z does). But, ok. Dave3d
Can you tell me what to set settings to for 1333, so I can actually boot into windows?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 15, 2008 Please make sure that you have the latest bios and load setup defaults and then set the memory Voltage to 1.8-1.9 Volts then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org to be sure one is not failing. If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test. .
DerekT
And a cpu-z screenshot should not be warrented, with all of the bios info I just posted (which shows 10 times more than cpu-z does). Does it show the SPD ROM readout for speed and timings? I don't see that anywhere. Does it show the SPD JEDEC readout? I don't see that anywhere either. Set to the values shown, boot to memtest and test. Try this with a single stick. Remove the stick and try with the other stick. Same results? Crash on bootup with either stick? Dave3d
DerekT. Sorry, I did not mean to sound like I was being a dick. I was seriously wondering why. Now I know why. :) Thanx. Here is a cpu-z shot (the exact memory I have, but not mine since I am at work) of the spd tab. I now notice that it has looser timings at 1333, but less voltage also. I will run memtest when I get home. 1 time on both sticks at the same time? Then, if there are errors, 1 stick at a time? I will also try booting at 1600 per specs with only 1 stick. Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 15, 2008 Running the memory at DDR1333 I would try and reset the BIOS and see if it will post and then load setup defaults and set the tested settings and Voltage to 1.7-1.8 Volts and set the TRFC to 72 and TWR to 10 Then see if it will post and pass http://www.memtest.org with legacy USB Disabled. DerekT
@ Dave3d, Not to worry :) @RAMGUY, I notice in the CPU-z SPD tabs, there is only 1333Mhz as a top end. Is there possibly an error on the Rom listing that shows 1600C9?
Dave3d
@DerekT There are too many EPP profiles for cpu-z to display them all. This was noted in a Tomshardware ddr3 1600 roundup review.

Dave3d
Hey RamGuy. The memory passes multiple instances of memtest at 1600. The computer just crashes when trying to load the desktop at 1600, or at anything above 1333).
Dave3d
Another update. The computer 'seems' to be stable at 1333, at 9 10 10 25 34(trc) 2t. But, this is damn slow. Games are 'hitching', and I still cant run at rated 1600 w/o crashing. Please advise.
Dave3d
Yet one more update. Got 1600 to boot without crashing, using the above timings, but 1.9v. Will play some more and see if I get crash/hang. This is SO far away from the specified timings tho. :(
Wired
You could always RMA them like RG suggested :)
Dave3d
Yeah, I hear what you are saying. But, if the memory passes memtest w/o issue, is another pair going to be the same? IE: Will another pair enter windows at the specified speed and voltage, or will I just be out of a computer until I get the next sticks and have the same problem? :(:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 16, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 16, 2008 That is something that we would not be able to answer, but it would take the memory out of the equation and then you would know if that happens the memory is most likely not the problem. Dave3d
OK. I am going to play with it for a few days, and see if it is really stable now (as before it was fine 1 day, but crashed the next). If it is still unstable after a couple more days, I will look into the rma. Thanx. Dave

Dave3d
Nope. Got homr e tonight, powered on the machine, hang right after boot. RAMGUY: I bought these at newegg. I would like to return them for a refund and get another set of memory. I put in for the rebate already though. IS there a way to stop the rebate and be able to return these to newegg? Thanx. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 17, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 17, 2008 I am sorry but I have nothing to do with Rebates and would not have any way to help with that. They would be done by a third party. And I am not sure the reseller will take them back if you cut out the bar code for the Rebate. But we can replace them if you like, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them. Also did you try the settings DEREKT suggested with the modules in the black slots?
