The_Corsair_fan
Hello, I am mounting a new gaming pc and I've bought an HX 1000 W PSU. However once I finished installing all of the parts and plugged the PSU I had no signal from the PC. No fans no mobo bips no bios nothing. I tested the ATX 24 pins connector with a multimeter and found no voltage except on the STD BY and the PSON# connectors. I tested as well a molex connector and found 0V on both the 12V and 5V connectors. Does that mean that the PSU is defective? Thanks for your help
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 15, 2008 While you have your multimeter handy, I would read this guide and make sure that the rails on the PSU are all within spec. As long as the rails are within 5% of their rated value, then there should not be any PSU related problems. Let us know your results!
The_Corsair_fan
Thanks RAM_GUY for your reply, actually the psu was ok but the motherboard was defective, I got it replaced and should be able to test the whole system soon. Thanks!

The_Corsair_fan
Thanks for the update, let us know if you have any problems with the PSU when you get the new board! No problem at all, my HX1000W and 2*2Gb Dominator + Airflow are nothing but great! Corsair rocks. Thanks
The_Corsair_fan
Hello again, I am having a problem, it happened many times. While playing a game the system freezes (in a manner that I need to restart) When I went to the bios I found more than 6000 RPM for the psu fan!!!, is this normal? could it be a psu overheating problem? Maximum temperature I measured was 60 degrees so I don't think it's the cpu. Thx
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 22, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 22, 2008 How are you measuring the PSU fan speed? You may want to run http://www.memtest.org to rule out a memory related problem. If you only have issues when playing a game, then you may want to reinstall your video drivers, using a driver cleaner program to make sure that you do not leave any remnants of previous drivers. And possibly test the video card in a different system to make sure that the card is not causing the issues.

The_Corsair_fan
Update: the same problem happened again!I updated all of the drivers. Really weird!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 23, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 23, 2008 I still would not suspect that the PSU is causing the stability issues you are having in games, but if you would like to try swapping the unit out, you can use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”

Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.” is the power temperature in the asus probe Reliable? It wasc indicating 45 degrees and raised an alarm. Actually the temperature test gave me around 50 degrees for the CPU, 40 for both NB and SB, and 30 for the board. As for the gpu the temperatures I got 76 degrees max I removed and reinstalled all of the drivers, still having the problem, I guess the last thing I'll try before swapping the psu is running the system on xp

Thx If the 140mm fan in the HX1000 was spinning at 6000 RPM, it'd probably make so much noise you could not hear yourself thinking. (If the fan did not come apart at the seams first). So that's probably a case of mistaken readings by the system.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 24, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 24, 2008 Software readings can be very inaccurate, however the readings that you mentioned do not look out of the ordinary. (except for the fan reading, but there is no fan sensor built into the unit, so I have no clue where its getting the 6000RPM reading from)
The_Corsair_fan
Hello everybody, I don't know what to say but the problems seems to be gone. (well I guess) But the amazing thing is the way it was gone! All I had to do is to disconnect my pc from the net (unplug the cable). I don't what could be the reason, a conflict in firewalls , windows one and avast's one, or any other thing related to the lan card driver, but since I am doing that before launching the games I have no problem at all, even if I stay 4-5 hours none stop! In order to be sure that this was the source of the problem, whenever I try to launch a game with the cable plugged and the pc connected to the net the game freezes again within 5-10 minutes of play! I'll keep you updated in case anything new related to this problem happens. Thank you for all of your help
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 29, 2008 Could be an issue with IRQ addressing, I would update the BIOS, load defaults and then see if you have the same problems. If nothing changes, then download the latest chipset/lan driver from your motherboard manufacturer and give that a shot! At any rate, glad to hear you were able to isolate the issue! The_Corsair_fan
Thanks for your reply RAM GUY, actually I have the latest bios, and chipset/lan drivers from Asus. Is there a way (some windows logging, or any other tool that can log such events/errors) to find out if it's an IRQ problem? Anyways, it's not as bothering as before, since I know how to avoid this problem, but the bad side of the solution I found is that I cannot do anything that uses internet (download for exemple) while playing. The_Corsair_fan
I will check if an IRQ is shared betwenn the vga, sound and lan (it's very probable), in case it is I will try to disable one of the lans (or eventually the one being shared , since I have 2 lans) This could be a solution since I only use one of the 2 lans so disabling one of them will not bother me
JoeBob
A long time ago I had a problem with my network card, it had become defective, but only to the point that it made the computer freeze up when in use. (there were no visual warnings by the system that anything was broken). So, yeah, if you have more than one network controller in your rig, try the other to see if it changes things. The_Corsair_fan
I checked in the device manager the resources by device, on the IRQ resource, the Sound card and one of the lan were sharing the same IRQ. I disabled this lan card and worked with the second. I had no problem so far playing, downloading and doing whatever you can immagine simultaneously!! Many thanks ram guy, it was your mentioning of the word IRQ that pushed me towards searching further and trynig what I did! Thanks man, I am a bigger fan of corsair from now on :D: :!:
