eaglei13
I have been trying to run two kits of this memory in my system. It will not boot with all four sticks installed. It will boot with three sticks. I have run memtest on all sticks, they all passed. I have tried setting the voltage to 2.1v, upping the northbridge by 0.5v and reducing the speed to 667. It does not make any difference. The RMA period for Newegg has passed and I had mailed in the rebate. I had already RMA'd my motherboard thinking it was the problem. After getting it back the problem remains. I would really like to take advantage of all 4gb's. Any suggestions as to what my options may be? Wired
What's the version # of each pair?
eaglei13
I double checked to make sure they are the same version. They are the newer version, 6.2.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 15, 2008 If you can not get the system stable with the memory running at DDR667, then there may be a problem with either the memory controller on the CPU, or one of the memory modules. Since you have already replaced the motherboard, that should at least rule out the motherboard as a potential problem. I would test each module one at a time in the slot closest to the CPU with http://www.memtest.org. Make sure you have the memory voltage set to 2.1 volts and let us know your results! eaglei13
Actually when I had RMA'd my motherboard, Gigabyte sent me back the exact same board. It had worked for a couple days, then started having the same problems again. Anyways, I have tested each stick of ram with memtest and received no errors. The sticks work in the first three dimm slots at rated memory speeds. It is when I put a stick in the fourth slot that I have problems. Does not matter which mem stick I use. This means I have a bad slot on the motherboard? Don't want to suffer through the slow Gigabyte RMA process again, about a month turn around. Maybe use two 2gb chips, instead of trying four 1gb chips?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 16, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 16, 2008 Using 2x 2GB modules would definitely make things easier, and you will be able to run at 800MHz easily with just 2 modules in the system. To see if the fourth slot is bad, I would test a single module in there and see if you are still passing memtest.
eaglei13
I would greatly appreciate any help with this problem. I have the same motherboard, but have 4 sticks of 1gb TWIN2X2048-6400C4 memory. I have the same exact error. The computer boots for a brief time, then reboots to the bios screen and locks up with strange artifacts, on the screen. I have RMA'd the board once already. I have ran memtest on all sticks. They all passed. Don't understand what is going on here?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted October 21, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted October 21, 2008 Did you try these settings? With 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667 and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.2 Volts as well and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
eaglei13
OK, I applied the settings in the bios. I ran memtest on all 4 modules, individually. One stick appears to be bad. The system would not boot at all, with it. The remaining 3 sticks all passed memtest. Guess I need to start the RMA process?

Let's get them replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”
