Xylaquin
I bought two 1GB sticks of Corsair TwinX DDR2 XMS2 Dominator, PC2-8500 (1066), along with a Asus P5Q motherboard. The P5Q supports dual channel 1066 speeds, yet when I put the ram in it set them to go at 800. So I updated the BIOS to the latest revision, and set the DRAM Frequency in the BIOS to DDR2-1066, but to no avail. I then googled about and apparently in order to run at DDR2-1066, the sticks need to be powered at 2.1 volts, as opposed to the standard 1.8. So I went back to the BIOS and manually set the DRAM voltage to 2.1, but CPU-Z still reports I'm running at 800. I would greatly appreciate your help, I bet I'm missing something
kuailan
Dude, do manual setting in the BIOS...set all your CPU ratio, FSB, FSB strap, DRAM speed, etc...all manually. Now I dont know your CPU so I cant really tell you. For example I have Q9550...I will put ration 8.5 x 333FSB, and I put 400 under FSB strap, and DDR21066 for the speed. I believed it is the FSB strap that will help you to change the speed of RAM. DO some search in previous threads, I think there are some info on it. Xylaquin
kuailan, I read your thread before posting this one, and I've tried turning off the USB Legacy thing that I read somewhere too, but none work. My CPU is a Core 2 Duo E6700, and yes I'm using the latest version of CPU-Z. Is it not the SPD tab that I should be looking at? Here's a screenshot below of it, notice the Maximum Bandwidth box: http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/6898/cpuztu3.jpg
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 12, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 12, 2008 You need to be looking at the Memory Tab to see what the memory is actually running at not the SPD Tab.
Xylaquin
The memory tab: http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/4428/memorytabpw7.jpg  Do the Dominators use 128MB chips on the sticks? As Asus boards say in their manuals that they don't like 128mb chips.
Yellowbeard
Your memory is running correctly at 533mhz which is DDR 1066.
Xylaquin
Isn't 533 half the speed of 1066?
Yellowbeard
Isn't 533 half the speed of 1066? No, you are misunderstanding the terminology for Dual Data Rate memory. DDR1066 memory operates at 533mhz. However, it transfers data 2 times per clock cycle for an effective data rate of 1066. Your memory is running fine. Xylaquin
Ah! Silly me, thank you for informing me about that  I wonder why the SPD tab says 400mhz though...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted September 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted September 15, 2008 That is what is set in the modules SPD, it has to be something the MB can post at with default settings.
