smokincpu
I have my 790i sli FTW board on the way, the CPU will be qx9770. Is it worth the extra money considering the fsb of the cpu is 1600mhz? thanks for any insight
smokincpu
I guess my side question is if the 200mhz difference is worth the higher timing settings, I believe it is 7-7-7-20 vs 8-8-8-24 C13-6106 :: Corsair Dual Channel Dominator XMS3 4096MB PC14400 DDR3 1800MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB) (0.55 lbs) C13-8048 :: Corsair TWINX Dominator Dual Channel 4096MB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB) (0.2 lbs)
DerekT
The difference is due to overclocking. If you are looking for high bandwidth due to high FSB, then the higher speed DRAM will take you higher. Other than that, on a 400Mhz FSB CPU that you intend to keep at 400Mhz or lightly overclock, there is not much use in higher speed DRAM. You would need 1800Mhz DRAM to clock the FSB to 450Mhz. 450 X 9 will give you better DRAM speed all around than 400 X 10. But, that doesn't mean you will get 450 FSB on that CPU. Certainly I can't with mine. 425 is the best I can get.
