deafwolf
I recently built the machine below and everything tests out good, however I was forced to pull 2 gig to get XP Pro to install and now that the install is successful, XP PRO SP3, windows will hang on boot if I use all 4 gig. I can pull the 2 gig out and everything is fine. I realize the memory limitation in 32 bit OS's but I should still realize 3 gig out of it. Could this be a voltage issue? The MB is using the info on the memory for settings and nothing is overclocked.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 29, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 29, 2008 Please make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.0 volts (+.2 Volts W/Giga-Byte) and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, or if you have Value Select "BY SPD" and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.
deafwolf
Thanks for the help. The bios only goes to 15 on the last number and the memory is 5-5-5-18, so I can't adjust that. The voltage has no adjustments and is a little over 1.8. Everything else is set and the first stick is running the tests with no errors so far. I'll let you know the final results. deafwolf
I am, with the CD bootable one. The first stick passed but the second one froze up memtest86 before it started. Houston, we have a problem. I believe my warrant at Frys is still good, so I'll go over there tomorrow morning and see if they will exchange it. Also, should I get memory that is whithin the constraints of the last number only going to 15, or with the 18 running at 15 be OK?
