qassoom
Hello guys! How are you doing? I am in the phase of upgrading my RAM. I was interested in one of CORSAIR RAMs (specifically CORSAIR DOMINATOR with DHX Technology TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF 4GB PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066) DDR2) but my friend told me to check its compatibility with my current motherboard. Mine is an Intel DG31PR with currently a memory set of 2048 MB DDR2-SDRAM (specifically DDR2-SDRAM PC2-5300 (333 MHz) - [DDR2-666]). Question One: is it worth it paying $147.50 + over seas shipping of around $20 to get a better performance (as performance matters me more than capacity, although I am looking for both). Question Two: what is the maximum Memory Clock / I/O Bus Clock that my motherboard can handle - so that to know whether the suggested TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF would work or there is something "better" than this one! :sunglasse Out of the subject question: do you think I have a very good motherboard that can handle futuristic upgrades - or that I should wait like 6 - 12 months before considering a quad-core & DDR3 jump? Any extra piece of info would help much for a beginner like me! Cheers for you & the guys @ Corsair!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 28, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 28, 2008 NO that MB will not support these or any modules needing more than 1.8 Volts from what I understand. It would have to allow you to set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts to run any DDR1066 memory module.
qassoom
What is the suggested course of action to have more & faster ram on my machine??? With thanks in advance!!!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 28, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 28, 2008 The only modules I would use with that MB would be Twin2x4096-6400C5DHX as they will run at 1.8 Volts other wise a new MB would be the next step. sorry! qassoom
It's OK man! Sorry for bothering you with many questions, but do you have a good idea of the best time to consider buying a new motherboard (the next big release for a motherboard company - Inter or AMD - to have it bought in the next 6 months; anything alike), And sorry again for the bothering question! Cheers!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 28, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 28, 2008 I would stay away from Intel MB's unless you get one of the extreme series as they should allow you he Voltage adjustments or check the MB you plan on buying on our memory configurator first.
