xilinnz
I had the Corsair VX550W power supply since half a year ago but haven't really used it because my old one worked again so I didn't bother using this one yet. Recently, I ordered parts to make a new system and wanted to use this PSU. I have the corsair 2gig ram, intel Q6600 processor, xFx 8800GT video card, asus p5k-e wifi mobo. Everything was hooked up. I hit the power and the fans go on for a second, then everything would go right off. The light on the mobo is green. I tried doing the PSU test with the paperclip and the PSU hooked up to one of my case fans but when I hit the switch on the PSU, the fans would go on for a second then it goes off again. (sometimes I have to jiggle the paperclip a bit) Before I did the PSU test, I RMA-ed the mobo but the same problem occurs so I'm thinking its a PSU problem. Is there anything else I can do at home before I bring it to a computer place to test it out?
Cristian
I have the same problem, I chalked it up to the PSU being faulty (I made a thread). Internally or the cables or both. Have you tried moving and twitching the cables a bit to see if it makes a difference?
xilinnz
not really. im not an expert dealing with that kinda stuff. wouldn't doing that screw up my warranty? also, did you fix yours?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 28, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 28, 2008 Try hooking up some case fans to the PSU when you do the paperclip test, and if you still get the same results, then lets get it replaced! Please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it. Be sure to check the box that says “I've already spoken to Technical Support and/or RAM Guy.”
xilinnz
Where can I find the part number on the PSU? I think its CMPSU-550VX but I can't find that on the form. Also, what address I do ship the PSU back to and do I send the power wire back too?

You will get a shipping label with the address information once the RMA is approved, and I would send the power cable along with the PSU.
