greggus
Hi, Let me explain my problem first. I built this machine 3 months ago and for about 2 months it runs pretty well. Since 4 weeks it began to have BSOD randomly. The problem is i cant predict when it will occure (:p); sometimes the machine run for 5 days without a problem; and then a blue screen (PFN List corrupt each time). I check my RAM with memtest for 4hours and no errors. I check the RAM parameters in BIOS and set it to 9-9-9-24 at 1.80v; i updated all drivers; launch BurnIn Test for 3h, no temp pb ... what can i do next ? Is there is a way to check each components, to check windows file (perhaps one of the system file is corrupt) ? Regards Greg
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 26, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 26, 2008 If you are not getting errors in memtest that might suggest a driver problem, did you look up the stop error code at http://www.microsoft.com/technet? greggus
I just tried Prime 95 for 1h, still no errors. First time i got the BSOD it was PFN List corrupt, but since one week the BS are so fast that i cant read it (the computer reboot). The real problem is that they are very rare ... i use my computer 10-12 hours a day and if there is a blue screen, it never happened at the begining ... it happened after a lot of use. Like i said, sometimes i dont get any BS for 4 days ... then ... I suspected a problem with the sound card, because each time there is a BS (and reboot) i tried to launch a video or i am playing a game. I will try alternate driver for my card ... just in case; but like i said, sometimes nothing happened for 4 days.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 26, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 26, 2008 Check your event log the error will be logged there.
greggus
Using the event viewer from vista, i cant find any details regarding this problem. Unexpected reboot are recorded (error 6008) but except a binary sequence there is no details. exemple : <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> <System> <Provider Name="EventLog" /> <EventID Qualifiers="32768">6008</EventID> <Level>2</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-08-25T19:50:04.000Z" /> <EventRecordID>43479</EventRecordID> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>Null</Computer> <Security /> </System> <EventData> <Data>21:48:44</Data> <Data>25/08/2008</Data> <Data> </Data> <Data> </Data> <Data>26777</Data> <Data> </Data> <Data> </Data> <Binary>D807080001001900150030002C006802D807080001001900130030002C0068023C0000003C000000000000000000000000000000000000000100000000000000</Binary> </EventData> </Event> Perhaps there is another way to find details ? or a program to log error. (btw, thank you for taking care of my pb :) )
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 26, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 26, 2008 Please go to the Run command and enter Event Viewer it should open a GUI version that is much easier to understand.
greggus
The xml code i wrote come from Event Viewer. Windows log -> System ... then i search for an unexpected reboot. Except the date and hour, the error code (6008), there are nothing else :[pouts:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 26, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 26, 2008 I am sorry but that is no help for me, I would suggest calling Microsoft to help you get the stop error code and maybe what might be causing it if you just got Windows I think you have 30 days of free support. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 26, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 26, 2008 By the way are you using a PCI sound card or some other PCI card in your system? Also you might check the Driver down load section for your MB for the Lan and Raid controller from the MB makers site and see if they have a newer version. greggus
I think (and hope) i found the problem causing the BSOD. I used the program verifier.exe (to check drivers files) from microsoft. While activating a full scan of drivers, each time my pc crash (the driver is attempting to access memory after it has freed) before entering windows. I tried to check every file one by one but it only crashes when i scan all the files ... so i tried to disable every component of my pc. And guess what, when i disabled USB, no crash. I searched for USB hardware on my pc and came up with the only one i have forgotten : touchscreen driver (from my HTTPC case). I uninstalled it and then no crash when i scan for verified drivers with verifier.exe. I hope it is the cause of my unexpected reboot ... now wait & see :sunglasse (strange thing is that vista have integrated touchscreen driver) Again, thx for your help. (sorry for my poor english :p)
greggus
New BSOD today (after 12 hours without a problem). Again PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (no details except a hexa error code). I will try another network card. Each time this bluescreen happened i am surfing on youtube or downloading something ... perhaps there is a pb with my realtek chipset. If it happen again, i will try to use another sound card. :(:
