XMS2 = Value select ram?

So I am running an ASUS P5N32-E, C2D 6750 and just installed my second 8800GTS SSC. I built this system in January and ordered everything off Newegg. The ram I specifically ordered is CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-6400C4 - Retail)

When I installed it, I never had the option of enabling SLI memory, as it was greyed out .. I assumed at the time it was because I didn't actually have the second video card installed so I didn't pay it too much attention.

Fast forward to this week when I get my other video card, and I still can't enable it ... I install Everest .. and this is what it tells me I have installed :

DIMM1: Corsair Value Select VS1GB800D2 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz)

DIMM2: Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400C4 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-13 @ 270 MHz)

So what's the deal? I would almost assume that it's just a problem with the software ...but ... uhh ... that's some pretty specific model information that I can't imagine it's just making up.

Physically they "appear" to be the same ram, but it's kinda hard to say considering they are both covered in a heat sink .. I have no idea what's below that.

Is this normal ? If so, how come I still can't enable "SLI memory"?

I've been messing with it all weekend trying to tweak my system with a slight OC and still no dice.

In the BIOS it says :SLI Memory - Not detected: Which is also grayed out .. I downloaded the manual, searched dozens of forums and checked every conceivable setting in the BIOS (I was already running the most recent version) I am left with the opinion that it is in fact a difference with the RAM ... I guess somehow I got a mismatched stick?

Here's hoping the Ram Guy will pop in and offer a solution :biggrin:

Only the Doninator modules will have the EPP Profiles in the SPD, but the DHX part if it was made after May of this year should have EPP Profiles. Just set the tested settings manually as well as the Voltage and if you are going to over clock them I would set the settings to "BY SPD"
