Excel110
Just got mine a day or two ago and it's detected as a fixed storage device rather than a removable USB. Any way to fix this?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 22, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 22, 2008 Is the drive functioning properly and have you tried it in another system?
Excel110
Everything seems to be functioning properly with great write and read speeds (20+ MB/s on both for 100 meg file), although it seems to hang at the end of a write to the USB (once the file is transferred, the transfer window hangs at complete for 10 or 15 seconds). And yes, I tried it on two different computers (it is fixed on both).
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 22, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 22, 2008 There is nothing in the drive to set that, what is the make and model of the MB or systems you tried them in and what O.S. are you using? And in Device manager under the policies of the drive you can change it to a removable drive.
Excel110
I'm currently using an Acer TravelMate 4670 running Vista Business. I also tried it on an A-Bit NF7-S running Windows XP with the latest service pack.
Excel110
Oh, and under Policies, it only has Optimize for quick removal and Optimize for performance radio buttons. Nothing about changing it to a removable disk.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 22, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 22, 2008 Set it to Optimize for Quick Removal.
Excel110
It already is
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 22, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 22, 2008 Then its set as a removable drive and I am not sure why its showing up in windows that way, do you have all of the latest updates done?
Excel110
Yep, everything's completely up to date
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 22, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 22, 2008 As long as its working I would not worry abut it. You can try and re-install the USB Mass storage drives and see if that help but if you do dis-connect all USB devices and with this still connected remove the listing for in it in device manager and the Generic USB HUB then remove the drive and any other USB device and then go back to Device manager and remove all USB Devices listed in Device manager and restart the system and insert the drive and see if it detects it properly after it installs all of the drivers. P.S. I have seen some other USB devices cause this type of anomaly like a Printer that has a SD card port.
Excel110
No go... stays the same... but if it showed up on two different computers, doesn't that suggest that it's the drive that has the problem?

Excel110
I'll hold on to it until it actually breaks... i mean it seems to be working fine for now, so there's no point to replacing. Thanks for the help though :-)
