googlymoogly
Hi, I have two pairs of CM2X1024-8500C5D (4 sticks), 2.20V, ver2.1, (batch no.?) 07461655 After about 6 months of operation at 960 MHz, 2.20V, I cannot boot or POST with 3 of the sticks in my ASUS P5K Premium Wifi-AP Black Pearl Edition (whew, that's a mouthful). Only one stick works, and that's only after having booted with a working CM2X2048-6400C4DHX and manually setting the speed to 800 MHz (I'm using an E2140 processor). They do not even work at 800 MHz and 5-5-5-15 or 5-5-5-18 timings. I have also tried them in a brand new Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS5 motherboard, with the same results except that it can boot up with the lone stick from the start, as long as I've resetted the BIOS (I'm running an E6750). The other 3 fail. The P5K gets stuck during POST somewhere. The EP45-DS5 endlessly power cycles. Best, Jon
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 20, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 20, 2008 I would get the MB replaced and with a E2000 series CPU the memory frequency should be set to DDR667 and the max Voltage for these modules is 2.1 Volts more than that will VOID the warranty. You will have to talk to our customer service and see if they will be able to replace them since you were over volting them. 888-222-4346 or 510-657-8747 Ext "0"
googlymoogly
Which motherboard should be replaced? I've tried them in two, one of which is brand new. I tested the RAM with both CPUs in this board as well. The sticker on the RAM modules says "2.20V, ver2.1" (all four of them). I can take a photo to prove it if you wish. If they've been mislabelled, then I guess I've been overvolting them without knowing, which is unfortunate.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 21, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 21, 2008 I must have missed the version number in your first post, 2.2 volts is max for these parts. Pick a board, any board, and make sure you have the latest BIOS, load setup defaults and set the memory voltage to 2.2 volts. Test the modules one at a time in the slot closest to the CPU. Let us know your results!
googlymoogly
Hi again, I am for some reason now able to run them in the P5K at 800 MHz (I just redid my testing once more the same way (one stick at a time)), at 2.2V 5-5-5-15, but not 1066. 800 is good enough though, since this will be my secondary computer with the E2140 processor; not worth the hassle to get them exchanged. Thanks for the help and sorry for wasting your time!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 21, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 21, 2008 No problem at all. You may be able to get the memory to run at 1066MHz, but you would need to overclock the FSB of the CPU to 266MHz in order to do so. I haven't seen too much information on that exact CPU, so I couldn't really tell you how likely it would be to be able to do this.
