LucasGrillis
Any feedback on what the correct ram settings are for this board? I am running a 32 bit OS and am wondering if the bluescreen and freezes are related to that instead of ram. I am runng 7-7-7-20 at 1.9 v.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 16, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 16, 2008 Search for that MB and you will find a post with detailed settings, or you can follow the link in my signature for the tested settings on the modules to use for reference when you set up ur BIOS. LucasGrillis
I have searched high and low and cannot find the recommended settings. I have the ram on the auto instead of 2T settings...2T won't boot up.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 18, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 18, 2008 You can get the settings from the link in my signature and this Post was what I was talking about.
LucasGrillis
The link was what I needed. I noticed TotalAmnesias statement that the ram went in the black slots on the motherboard...The Intel online manual says BLUE SLOTS must be populated first! I made the same mistake and had regular freezes and bsods...I was about to change out the ram and reread the manual. I could have sworn I read somewhere to populate the black slots first. Anyway, I populated the blue slots and have run the machine about 6 hours without problem.

LucasGrillis
After 3 days of off-and-on use for 2-3 hours at a time, the machine froze up again after a few minutes of being on. Cursor freezes, as does keyboard. This has happened from day 1 on this build...Bios updates have not helped. I also have an Intel DX38BTmotherboard running rock solid. Here's something I noticed in the bios on the DX48BT_ the system bus speed says 1600, the system memory speed says 1066, with the third line saying system memory speed override at 1600. Now the interesting comparative thing is...the DX38BT bios says the system bus speed says 1333, the system memory speed says 1333, with the third line saying system memory speed override at 1332 ( I am running 1600 speed ram at 1333). The system memory speed on the DX48BT seems odd that it would say 1066, in that this board is rated at 1600. However Intel has no tested 1600 speed compatible ram on their list! Their tech support responded too the question of why they have no listed 1600 speed with "we don't handle this." Has anyone had success getting the DX48BT board to work with Twin3X4096-1600DHXIN-G ram? I am now running 1600 speed ram at 1066, to hopefully be stable. A day later, and I have just come across another confusing tecnical document from Intel. This one says the black slots must be populated, not the blue as the manual says. It also says only 2 1gig sticks of 1600 speed ram can be used. New information: I just got off of the phone with tech support and they say the blue and the black slots of channel B must be used for the 1600 ram modules, and that 4 gig can be used. They also say the "system memory speed" will automatically increase in the bios by populating the correct slots. I will change out the ram to the recommended slots and post the results later. LucasGrillis
I am running back up at the 1600 speed. The bios description, "system memory speed" did not change from 1066 however, as the Intel tech said it would. On the memory settings there are 3 options, Auto, Manual and Profile 1. Profile 1 did not boot prior to this. (I had to use Manual) Now, with it set at Profile 1, XMP shows up beside the "memory override speed." And the system boots up. I am having some of the same initial issues at start-up as other users of this board...Namely, false starts where it just hangs, as well as starting to boot, then pausing (everything goes off) and finally starting. If I turn off the power supply switch between uses, it will always do this. If I don't, it doesn't. So far, no hangs yet while in Windows.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 25, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 25, 2008 what happens if you run the memory at DDR1333 to match the CPU FSB?
LucasGrillis
The CPU on this machine is a 1600 fsb QX9770. The board is a match for that. The system bus speed is also 1600, with the system memory speed at 1066 on the DX48BT. Not sure why that is, because the system memory speed on the DX38Bt is 1333, as is the system bus speed. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 25, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 25, 2008 You had a E6850 Listed in your profile. But did you try it with the E6850 at DDR1333?
LucasGrillis
No, I didn't try it with that one...That processor was from the previous build on the DX38BT. I must have missed it when I edited my specs.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 26, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 26, 2008 Do you have the latest BIOS version installed and did you try and set the modules in the slots that was suggested with the timings set as suggested? If so and its still not running properly let's get them replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them. LucasGrillis
I have the latest bios, and have the memory modules in the proper slots now. All seems to be working good, no need to RMA at this point. Do you suppose that, in order to increase the processor bus speed, they had to decrease the 'system memory speed'? I still don't understand the 'system memory override' in order to run at 1600. Intel is sort of tight-lipped on the inquiry I made. Thanks for your help, and especially to Corsair for this forum. It is a great source for information, one that I wish other manufacturers would provide. It is INVALUABLE!
