JohnnyWong
Dear Sir and Guys here, this is my first post, i would like some help regarding my psu. i have upgraded my display card from 2900XT to 4870x2, but after i installed the card, turn on the power i got no display at all (blank screen) my PSU now is Akasa model: AK-P650FF BK 650watt PSU and the rails is as follow; +3.3v = 33a +5v = 24a +12v1 = 13a +12v2 = 18a +12v3 = 16a +12v4 = 8a i want to know whether this PSU can't handle the 4870x2? cause i heard 4870x2 need 40a for 12v rail alone. thanks and looking forward for anyone can give some advice. Yellowbeard
From what I have seen on the net and in reviews, the Akasa units are not outstanding PSUs. In addition to the wattage rating, for demanding cards like the X2 you have, you need high quality power. If you are interested in a Corsair unit, try our POWER SUPPLY FINDER. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 15, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 15, 2008 HX1000 is probably a bit overkill, but it will leave you with plenty of room for expansion! Keep in mind the 40 amp rating for that video card is for the entire system, not 40 amps just for the video card.

JoeBob
From what I can tell from reviews, a typical 2 x HD4870X2 setup needs about 600-650W from the PSU. (That's total consumption for the whole computer).
clerick
HD4870x2 works with my rig powered by a single 620hx.

JohnnyWong
HD4870x2 works with my rig powered by a single 620hx. another question is, if the PSU unable to handle the VGA, can it still able turn on or just immediately off? for me when i turn on the pc the system actually running, the VGA card, case fans, hdd spinning all running, only my Dell 24" LCD look like still in standby mode. what i'm worry is the vga got problem. JohnnyWong
received the Corsair HX1000W PSU, and tested still the same, after swap to another mainboard from Abit IX38 QuadGT to Abit AW9D-MAX the 4870X2 working and system boot in normal. I'm sure the Abit IX38 QuadGT have compatible issue with 4870X2 card, just like DFI x38 chipset board also having same issue. I'm damn lucky now spent for trouble. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 18, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 18, 2008 To answer your questions, the HX1000 will have enough power for two of those cards in crossfire easily. If the PSU were underpowered for the system, then you would likely have stability issues under high loads. Let us know if you have any problems with the unit! JohnnyWong
the PSU is just fine. thanks. anyway, finally i solved the IX38 QuadGT incompatible problem by flash the BIOS to v10. now only hope Abit come out with newest BIOS update.
