ziftekar
Hi, this is my first time posting and building a system so please bear with me. I was planning on building a computer with a EVGA 780i motherboard and a Intel Q6600 processor. I wasn't sure what RAM to get with this motherboard; I was debating between 2 sets of the TWIN2X2048-8500C5D for a total of 4GB, or 1 set of the TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF RAM. Which RAM would run better? There are a few posts on the internet about compatibility issues between both RAM sets and the motherboard so I wasn't sure which one would give me the least amount of problems. I was also planning on making the RAM run at the timing and voltage Corsair suggests.
Wired
the 4 GB pack definitely. 2 sticks is always better than 4. Less load on the memory controller.
Yellowbeard
the 4 GB pack definitely. 2 sticks is always better than 4. Less load on the memory controller. Agreed! I ran the 4096 kit on this board without issue. The early bios' topped memory out at about DDR1000 so be sure to update to the most recent bios if it comes with the older version. ziftekar
Thanks a lot. Also do you guys know about the Antec P182 Case? I was considering using that case with the Antec TPQ-850 Power Supply. Do you guys think that I will be able to connect the motherboard power without any problems? Do you think that the RAM will interfere with connecting it because of the fins? Really I'm concerned with how long the motherboard power cable coming out of the power supply is. Also, I would put the RAM in the first and third slot on the motherboard right? I know these questions are kind of weird but I wanted to make sure that I wouldn't have any problems. Thanks. Yellowbeard
These heat sinks are tall but I have never seen them interfere with connecting MOBO power.

I use these when I transition the cables to the right side of the case (hidden).
