JYG
Greetings all! I recently upgraded my motherboard from ASUS P5K-deluxe to a ASUS P5Q-premium. I have used Corsair memory for all my recent builds (8500C5, next 8500CFD and latest 9136C5D) and been very happy with the performance. However, with my latest mb I immediately ran into weird problems: My best stable settings was 9,5x429 - memory at 1143MHz (memory at 2.1V). Not that bad I thought and decided to check out my max FSB... To my amazement when trying the memory at a 1:1 devider I couldn't even achieve stabilty at 6x450 - memory at 900MHz! First I thought that either my CPU, my motherboard or the BIOS was what caused the problems but since I wanted to try a x64 OS with 4Gb memory I decided to try with, for once, something other than Corsair memory. So, I ordered 2x2Gb ******** PC2-9600 1200Mhz memory. Surprise, surprise: With the exact same setting in the BIOS my new memory was stable at 6x564!!! So, nothing wrong with the CPU,mb or BIOS. Everything wrong with the CM2X1024-9136C5D :(: To Corsair: Shouldn't the 9136C5D memory work much better with P45 (in my case ASUS P5Q-premium) boards than they currently do??? Think about the logic that you are saying. The DRAM works fine in other boards and then there are issues on this board so it must be the DRAM? With new chipsets and motherboard builds (and this is the newest chipset from Intel) there are always issues that are resolved by BIOS updates and as well, your settings. Since you have found stability with the other DRAM and since the other DRAM is 2GB sticks you have the 4GB, then stick with that DRAM. Very likely that Chipset/BIOS iteration has issues with the Micron D9GMH DRAM that the 1GB sticks use and does not with the (Very likely) PSC DRAM that the 2GB sticks use. My advice? What you did! Find what works and go with that. I had issues with Micron D9GMH and X38 as well. Many have found that the Microns are not working all that well with the newest chipset builds. JYG
Kudos to You DerekT. Agreed, my logic was faltering when writing my original post. Forward compatibility is something You wish for as a customer but nothing You can expect. Moderator: Please delete this thread since I can't do it myself. Moderator: Please delete this thread since I can't do it myself.I can delete if you like but, your post and info here may still be useful to others. And, there is a very high probability that ASUS will update the bios soon and this problem will disappear. Here at Corsair, we don't like to delete info so I'd prefer to leave this here. Have fun with the new system. :sunglasse
