jstern1
I am currently experiencing some write problems with my 8GB Survivor GT. On certain computers (no set pattern as to which computers this problem occurs - all are running XP) I find I cannot save files into the root directory of the drive. If I however create a folder I can save the same files without any problems. Is this likely to be a problem with the drive or something to do with the computers that I use the drive with? The file types are the usual MS office stuff (Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc) so nothing too wierd.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 11, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 11, 2008 Let's test it: Please try to format the drive from a command prompt with this syntax: Format (X:) /FS:FAT32 /U (X=the drive letter assigned to the Flash Voyager) then try the HDBENCH v3.40 Beta 6 to test the performance. And please do a full format of the drive before you run the test and set it to 100 MB file size. Read should be about 30 MBPs and Write at about 24 MBps. jstern1
I have reformated the drive as prescribed and performed the HDBench test with the following results... Read - 220589 Write - 16844 Random Read - 21768 Random Write - 5310 This seems some way off what you were predicting!! Is the implication I have a faulty drive as I am not sure how the read/write speeds will affect my ability to save files in the root directory? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 12, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 12, 2008 Read - 220589 Write - 16844 They are both a bit low but that is still faster then current drives and that drive is no longer available so it is up to you if you want to RMA it. Let's get it replaced, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace it.
jstern1
Given the 8GB GT survivor is not available, what am I likely to get offered if I do choose the RMA route? Also - Despite all of your comments, I am still not sure how the read/write speed stops me from saving files to the root directory of the drive on some computers?? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted August 13, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted August 13, 2008 Did you still have that problem after you formatted the drive? If so can you test it on another system and see if that is still an issue, if so then I would suggest getting it replaced. And I am sorry I would not know what they would offer you, I would go ahead and get the RMA number then call our customer service and see what they will offer. 888-222-4346 or 510-657-8747.
