Twin2x4096-6400C5 and Asus P5E-VM HDMI

I built my new pc around this ram and motherboard with an Intel E8400 3.0GHz cpu and aside from only "seeing" 3.24GB of the ram, it seems to run fine.

The problems I'm curious about are:

1) The system will not allow me to update Windows

2) The system will not allow me to install the HD Audio driver (I actually have no audio at all right now).

I left everything set to auto in the bios config when I built but I have gone in to look at the ram timing. The sticks say 5-5-5-18 on them but when I try to change it, I cannot change the last number to anything higer than 15.

Is this the most compatible ram for this motherboard or should I be sending it back and getting something else?

Thank you very much for your replies.

Mike

These modules should run great on that MB, I would make sure that you have the latest Bios version and then load setup/optimized defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.0 volts and then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, and then test the module/'s one at a time with http://www.memtest.org! If you still get errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! However, if you get errors with both modules that would suggest some other problem and I would test them in another system or MB to be sure. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test.

If they both pass one up and in dual channel that would suggest some other problem and I would try a fresh install of the O.S. with another HDD that is virgin to make sure it is not a software problem.
