ruester
Can someone tell me how to get Win XP to "see" all my RAM? I just installed 4 GB of Corsair Twin2X4096-6400 C5 on an ASUS P5B Deluxe MB. I already had 2 GB of OCZ DDR2 PC6400 800MHz I wanted to beef it up to 6. WinXPonly shows 2.93 GB even when I take oiut my old RAM altogether, or put all 4 sticks in, it's always 2.93?! Thanks all, Aza

Thanks all, Aza You have run into the limitations of a 32-bit Windows operating system. 32-bit OSes, such as most versions of Windows XP, support up to 4GB maximum -- but they cannot use all 4GB of that memory. In fact, some of that 4GB of memory is reserved for hardware cache and interrupts. And 32-bit platforms might not work properly with more than 4GB of memory installed. If you want your system to see all 6GB of memory, then you must upgrade to a 64-bit operating system.
ruester
What do I need for my computer to run 64bit XP?
sgupta
A 64-bit copy of Windows XP. It's a separate version altogether, unfortunately, so you'd likely have to buy a copy. (I'm honestly not sure if Microsoft has a program to upgrade to the 64-bit version or not). Keep in mind that if you choose to go this route and have any older hardware, you need to be sure there are available 64-bit drivers for that hardware (most newer stuff has them available for Vista and most for XP) as you will *not* be able to use a 32-bit driver on a 64-bit operating system. Wired
you need to format to go from 32 to 64 bit OS. 64 bit windows can see and use more than 4 GB of memory.
ruester
Other than the drivers are there any other hardware changes I might have to make, ie Processor, Video card, etc...?
