ABIT KV8 - Value select 1gb paired ??????

Hi, I have had a search, but didnt come with much. I am currently using the mem that is in my sig. I dont overclock or anthing!! I am thinking of selling my 512 xms, and purchasing 1 gig of value select. I cant afford to just buy another stick of XMS btw. so, my question is, has anybody tested the value select in the ABIT mobo. the ram from scan, hehe, that rhymes. Corsair Value Select 1Gb DDR 400 Mhz (paired memory) (2x512 pc3200) Model No: VS1GBKIT400C3 are there any issues i shud know about etc? Also, how will it affect performace going from XMS stuff, to cheaper ram. bear in mind, no overclocking. My current timings from CPUz, i havnt changed any, but dont know if they are good or what?? Well, you're actually not running your memory as fast as it's rated to go, since you run CAS 2.5 instead of CAS 2, this'll reduce the performance loss you experience. I can't remember the exact numbers, RAM GUY will know, but it's something like 3-5% (don't quote me on that). The kit you're looking at ([url=http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-480&depa=0]VS1GBKIT400C3[/url]) is no less than $160.00 that I could find and $166 there at Newegg. I'd have to reccommend that you buy the CAS 2.5 version instead of the C3 version ([url=http://shop.store.yahoo.com/compupartsonline/covs1gbkitdd1.html]VS1GBKIT400[/url]) for $20 extra, but you can probably do more looking and find a better price. What I'm getting at is how much money you expect to get for a used piece of XMS memory. You might also want to check out [url=http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?query=Corsair+XMS+PC3200+512MB&ht=1&sosortproperty=1&from=R10&BasicSearch=]THIS[/url] list on eBay! Many of them have only 2 days left and have ZERO bids so far! You might be able to pick up a cheap stick of new stuff! PLUR CK

Well, I dont know that it would be wise to mix memory, however, A 1.0 Gig kit of VS1GBKIT400 should run great in this MB.

Not at all, it's hard some times to answer some one with a question like this, as we don't know or if there are other things the user is not telling or asking sometimes!

Thanks for replyin. i just wanted to know if 1 gig of value select would work in my Abit mobo, as ive heard there are quite a few compatability issues with A64's at the moment. And that memory isnt on the tried and tested list for my mobo on the abit site. so, if any1 around here can confirm then great. I'm in the UK btw. I cant really afford another stick on the same stuff, so plan to sell it, and buy a gig of value stuff. (if it works, at 400mhz) Thanks

I would try and match what you have, and then the suggested settings for 2 single modules of XMS3200C2 would be Cass 2.5-3-3-7 and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts. In addition, you should be able to use our Value select at the same timings, however I woulod not suggest mixing memory.
