I built my system a month ago with a QX9650 and EVGA nForce 780i SLi motherboard. My favorite company didn't have the memory in stock I wanted so I bought standard Kingston PC6400 memory.

When the Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5D's came in yesterday I installed them... and my system did not like very much.

I was on able to POST with 1 out of the 4 sticks and that was only if that stick was in the last DIMM slot. WTH?

I tried a myriad of fixes I discovered on the Net... still no joy. They'r egoing back to CDW tomorrow and will be replaced with 2xKingston KHX6400D2LLK2/2GN's.

Oh, and Vista froze on boot with the "good" stick in.

Could 3 of the 4 sticks been defective?

Depends on the part but you may yes. A module that is set to or tested at more aggressive settings will likely not perform the same with 4 modules unless you buy the modules as a quad kit. But it would be best to just use a Twin2x4096-8500C5DF kit of modules if you want 4 Gig and your MB will support DDR1066 memory.
