800 or 1066 ram

hi everyone i see some people build pcs using 800 ram and some using 1066 ram. some have there q6600 running at 3gigs with 800 ram and some at 3gigs with 1066 ram. i have both rams and tried them with same settings [just changing the ram] and see no difference in performance except for the reading on cpu-z.

pls. answer this first it may answer my next question

what and/or where/how will i see the advantage/disadvantage.

isn't the general rule of thumb m.b. & cpu is 1066 capable so shouldn't ram be 1066. if yes then why do people build everything with 1066 and use 800 ram.

i filled out my pc comp. when registering i don't know if it will show up on the post so here it is just incase.

asus maximus

xfx 8600gts xxx

antec quattro 850

antec p180

seagate 750gb 32mb

dominator 800x2 or dominator 1066x2 [have both] but don't use 800 and 1066at the same time obviously [mismatch].

THANKS!!!!!!!

A: I would try a memory benchmark like Everest Home or Sy-Soft Sandra.

A: Absolutely not, supported memory speed will be limited by the chipset and or CPU or maybe the configuration. The Intel I965 and I975 Chipsts only officially support DDR800 memory and you have to be running a 1066 FSB CPU, and with more than two double rank modules DDR667 would be suggested. The same holds true for most N680i chipsets and previous for Nvidia as well. However many will over clock well and run two modules at DDR1066 with out to much trouble, but the Intel chipsets would need to be over clocked on the CPU.

so with my asus maximus x38 chipset and q6600 cpu what mem should i run to get it as fast as possible the 800 or 1066 or 1111 [pc2-8888].

or the memory doesn't have anything to do with speed. as to go to 3.8 or 4.0 ghz.
