Best RAM for Striker

Alright, so I am getting ready to RMA my second set of OCZ 1066 RAM. I am sick of it - so I need your advice

I currently have 4 x 1GB OCZ 1066 RAM - numerous problems.

I want 4GB of RAM and for it to match my Q6600 bus speed of 1066. So 4GB running at 1066. I know I am going to do 2 x 2GB sticks, but which ones? I am considering the CORSAIR TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF because that is already rated at 1066 but I have read good things about the CORSAIR TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX and being able to overclock them to 1066.

I don't really care about price - I just want this to work - so I need your input as to which RAM will be the easiest and most maintenance free.

So bottom line - I want 4GB and I want 1066 and I want stable.

Also if there are any custom settings needed for the RAM you suggest - please let me know, just to save some work and having to find the best settings.

Thanks everyone!

The only choice with that MB would be with two modules if you want to run at DDR1066 otherwise DDR667 or DDR800 would be suggested when running 4 modules. So I would suggest Twin2x4096-8500C5DF it is a set of Two 2.0 Gig modules that will run at DDR1066 as long as you have a 1066 FSB CPU.

I was thinking of the TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX. I have seen many people able to overclock the 800MHz RAM to 1066 - and this is at the CAS 4 timings. Do you think that if I get two sticks of 2GB 800MHz that I can overclock it to 1066 and then later on upgrade to 8GB?

Or should I just get the TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF? lol.

It is a dice throw to clock the TWIN2X4096-6400C4 to 1066. In my view, to get 6400C4 to 8500C4 speeds with 2GB strips is in the realm of quite doubtful. You might, but don't expect it. You can expect the 8500C5's to make 1066Mhz. :) If you populate all four DRAM banks you could likely have to drop the bandwidth of 8500s to 6400s or 6400's to 5300s. However, it has been seen that these new high density PSC modules can often run with 4 modules when the MCH is set +.03v and the tRFC is set to auto. I have found this with a P5K-E and P5K-Deluxe. Also with a Maximus Formula.

Do you know how much I will have to set in BIOS? Voltages and timings or what?

You're welcome. If you get the TWIN2X4096-8500C5 (Two modules of 2048MB) then you will have to set the voltage to 2.1v and the timings to 5-5-5-15 2T.
