Lower Voltage Better?

Emil

Recommended Posts

I purchased TWIN2X2048-8500C5 modules for my GA-P35-DS3L. I plan on running them at 1000mhz which is a bit under spec. Would it be best for me to lower the voltage and see if they work reliably? I know for electronics heat is it's worse enemy for longevity, I'd like these to last for a few years.

(Do you think I could lower the timings a bit or is this speed still to high? The system isn't put together yet)

Thanks

It depends. You need to test it out. Run it at 1000Mhz, lower the timings to 2.0v and Memtest for a good ten passes. Then if it tests out fine, run the system that way for a few weeks. If you find no anomalies, then you are fine at 2.0. Then you can try for 1.95 and then 1.9. I don't think you should go lower than 1.9V personally.

Unfortunately with my motherboard there is no way to lower the voltage under it's default. My ram sticks default at 2.1v so I guess I'm staying there. BTW, I'm getting great performance out of them at that voltage 1136mhz so I'm happy.
