greengirl61
Just finished my first comp build and had originally bought a set of expensive (last Feb) twin2x2048 pkg of RAM by Corsair. This yr everything price wise was half of what it was last and in my haste, I ordered a pkg of 6400 g thinking they were the same as the CL4's, yes I'm a noob. I had set the CL$ timings to 4-4-4-12 2T and 2.1V and they ran perfectly at 800 mhz or so. Now that I've installed the 2nd set of 6400 g (II've got 4 GB Ram total), I've noticed my computers speed upon boot drop to 350-400 mhz. I downloaded CPU-Z and it informed me of the drop to 350 mhz. I'm thinking I've mixed an expensive pr w/cheaper pair of RAM and the computer is setting its self lower so as not to harm the G's which run at 5-5-5-18 timings at 1.9v I relaxed my timings to the 5-5-5-18 and left voltage at 2.1 Should I remove the slower ram or try to speed it up. I think it can only go to 400 mhz though. I'm disappointed because I spent more $ on Ram that isnt as good
DerekT
In your situation I would just drop the timings to fit with the higher timed DRAM. You may see a bit of a difference but it will not be large. As long as you are stable, that is the main thing. Download memtest from http://www.memtest.org. Burn the image to CD and boot to the CD. Allow for two full passes. If you test out fine, then it is all good. I would set the DRAM to 1.9V and test there. If unstable. move to 2.0 and retest. greengirl61
Thanks for the suggestion Derrick I'll do that and download Memtest and chec for stability issues
