MightyMax
I had some 1066 memory that was soiling the sheets, wouldn't even post... So I "borrowed" some 675MHz memory out of a system as a test and it ran perfect. The borrowed memory was TWIN2X1024-5400C4 4x512MB No the 1066Mhz memory wasn't Corsair .... I should have stayed with Corsair, sigh .... :winking: So I headed over to Newegg and found the 1GB flavor of the known good working memory with the LED's :D: These guys.. TWIN2X2048-5400C4PRO ( a pack of 2 ) so I purchased 2 of them to get to 4GB. Everything was fine and dandy, the BIOS didn't even bark at the new DIMM's forced timings of 4-4-4-12. I didn't have to do a thing, just run a few runs of 3DMark06 it warm things up and no troubles found... Till.... I ran CPU-Z to verify all was OK with the settings.. and found this... All OK here.. verify the 4GB is found. http://home.comcast.net/~MightyMax505/cpuz1.gif DIMM 1 is as expected .... http://home.comcast.net/~MightyMax505/cpuz2.gif Here is the kicker .... What is this 400Mhz memory hiding in 333Mhz PRO clothing? I moved this DIMM to slot one and got the same answer. Just to make sure. http://home.comcast.net/~MightyMax505/cpuz3.gif Normally I'm very glad to get more then I paid for. But I am supposed to be running matched pairs of memory... The sticker says it's a 5400C4PRO ( It's got the LED's to prove it :-) ) But the SPD says it's a 6400c4 non-pro version. So the big question is .... What will this effect? Will it force the voltage up to 2.1v? Will the lowest common dominator take the settings? etc...
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 20, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 20, 2008 The SPD may have been programmed incorrectly on that module. As long as you are configuring the system manually (and with 4 modules you most likely would need to anyway) then there should be no conflicts. If the modules were packaged together then they were tested together, so there should be no compatibility issues. If at any time you decide you would like to get them replace, please use the On Line RMA Request Form and we will be happy to replace them.
