Watership Down
I'm looking for a new PSU. The power calculator suggests the HX520 but being a bit paranoid I would rather go for the HX620 to give a bit more headroom. Would there be any downside to having too much power? Would I just be paying more to the power company for using extra watts or is there no difference and would only use more power if there was more powerful hardware installed? Thanks in advance for any info.
tenax
remember, ps calculators are based on continual highest load..most systems don't use every bit of their devices at their peak..nevertheless, it won't hurt to go 620..and no, it won't cost you more to run...your system will draw as much power as it draws no matter the ps..it's how many devices you have of course that determines how much power you'll draw..so if your system needs 300 watts average continuous, it's going to draw 300 whether it's a 520 or 620 watt ps. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 19, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 19, 2008 There should be no problem using a PSU which is overpowered for your system, and it will leave you plenty of room to upgrade in the future.
