kikikikopa
I currently have 2 sticks of 512MB CMX512-3200PT in a MSI 865PE running at dual channel. I want to upgrade to more of the same type but availability is limited and what is available is quite pricey. Would it be possible to add 2 sticks of 1GB CMX1024-3200PT for a total of 3GB and still be running in dual channel mode? Thanks.
DerekT
It's never a simple thing to mix and match DRAM. There's a good chance that an 865 chipset and your DRAM will be workable, but it is not a guarantee.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 19, 2008 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 19, 2008 You would get better performance just using a set of Twinx2048-3200C2 modules and keep the old ones as spares.
kikikikopa
Happy to report that the additional two 1GB sticks were compatable with the existing two 512MB sticks for a new total of 3GB. No problems whatsoever and the improvement is very noticeable in all applications.
DerekT
Good going. Those i865 Springdale chipsets were quite amenable to different DRAM which for Intel was quite surprising. An all around great chipset and memory translation that was, at the time, second to none.
