cfree1961
I bought this board and memory at the same time could not even install Vista ultimate 64 kept freezing during the expanding files process, called asus could not get it going so finally went and bought another M3A seemed to be working great until installing the OS again freezing! same place! called asus again and we tried several different things and it points to the ram the TWIN2X2048-8500C5D :(: I know I could RMA but how long will this take? I don't want to be 3wks without my main machine:eek: just to let you know the setup would be M3A,Phenom9500 maybe TWIN2X2048-8500C5D,Foxconn 8800GTS,two Seagate HDD 300 and 320GB should I still try the 8500 or back off to the 6400? is the 8500 pushing the board even though it says it SHOULD work any help would be appreciated!....Oh for RMA is it possible to cross ship so I don't have such a long wait? DerekT
Download Memtest from http://www.memtest.org. Burn the Memtest ISO image to a CD. 1066 with Phenom CPU's is a not at all a given at this time. Many people are finding issues and move to 6400Mhz. Enter your BIOS and set the DRAM voltage to 2.2v (for version 1.xx) or 2.1v (for version 2.xx+). Set the timings to 5-5-5-15. Boot to the Memtest CD and allow for two full passes. DerekT
You will not notice much of a difference as the HT of the Phenom is not at all saturated and the DRAM is running even at 800Mhz, faster than the data on the transport stream. Most people are finding that dropping to 800Mhz deals with all of their issues. The On CPU Memory Controller of the Phenom is not at all mature and is problematic at this time. Later revisions will no doubt, smooth this issue out. For research: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=536835
